Default Toyo R888 Size Question

Having searched the site, there appears to be a preference, in the Toyo R888 tires, for sizes 255/35/18 front and the 315/30/18 rears.

I have the OZ Alleggerita HLT in 18 inch. The rears are 12 inch wide, which is outside of the rim width for the 315/30/18 rears.

Is anyone running these on a 12 inch rim, or are people using a narrower rim?

Thanks for your help.

I've got the Toyo 315/30 on 11" rims and wish I had 12"

Default R888

Will fit on 12 inch rim no problem. I'm running a 305/35/18 R888 on these rims with no problem. I've also run a 335/30/18 and 315/30/18 without any problems so you are fine.

Sasportas, having run all of the various sizes on the rim that I have, what do you like best?

There is no clearance issue with the 335 on a non-RS GT3?

Thanks for your help.

I settled on the 255/315 setup on my '07 GT3 before switching to hoosiers. Well balance and like them (of course not as much as the Hoosiers)

In case you're concerned about esthetics, the 255/315 combo is a shorter overall diameter from stock, so while they work great, the car does look a bit funny because the wheelwell gap is now larger than stock. The 245/305 combo is the same overall diameter as stock so the car looks normal.

Default R888

I like the stock tire diameter ratio of the 265/35/18 + 305/35/18 combo. And yes, 315 fits no problem. 335 is a bit close the the inner wheel liner - with compression it does rub a bit until the plastic wears away.

Just wanted to follow up with my experience. I was surprised how much pressure these tires picked up as they heated up (seemed like at least 12+ pounds). I found them to be a real challenge at lower pressures. The rear of the car was not planted and would step out. I believe that the major issue was the stiffness (lack thereof) of the sidewall. I targeted 40-42 pounds hot in the rear and perhaps a pound or so less in the front. At these pressures, the car was reasonably predictable. The price is right, but I am not a huge fan of these tires.

Interesting, with 255/35 & 315/30 with 8.5 &11 I agree with pressure pick up, but I find them undrivable at anything over 34/37. But this on a 6.

I ran this size on some CCW 12x18's no problem...I see this size all the time on these rims.

40-42 hot is way to much and that is why the back end was stepping out. 37 in the rear would be better...no more than 38 for the R888. I found the R888 side wall to be stiffer than the RA1 sidewall.

40+ seems v high, even for 888s--I would've lost traction in the back by then. Are you running a customized suspension?

FWIW I shoot for 32-24F / 34-36R and am on 19s.

Sorry to hijack, but what hot pressures are you guys using for the Nitto NT01's? I just switched to those from the 888's and am trying to dial them in.

I run 19" r888 on 997.1. Ideal pressures are about 35/36 hot for me . I experimented, anything close or over 40psi was very slippery.

I had the car alligned by Farnbacher Loles (before they went bad). At this track event, I had David Murry drive the car. He thought the car was difficult to drive and was not confident in the handling (sideways often). He was driving it on cold tires and with me in the car. I believe that he gave up before the tires reached 38/40. As I got to 40, the car was manageable, but I certainly did not feel optimized at those pressures. I would also mention that the rim width for thes rear tires is 11.5 max (I have them on a 12 inch rim).
