the GTR is a great car for the everyday driver who has no knowledge or interest of the track.
going from a porsche to a nissan would be considered a step down in my books.
the GTR is a really good car however.

^ GTR will probably eat up most GT3's as well. but being faster isn't always "better".
only the driver/buyer can decide that.

I asked, because stock for stock, the GTR (DCT) does 0-200 km in 12.2 and the 997.2 GT3 (6MT) does 0-200 km in 12.3. At higher speeds, the GT3 is actually faster.
I had a chance to run against a GTR from a roll. I was in 2nd gear @ 5K rpm, even start. All the way through end of 3rd we were dead even and when I shifted from 3rd to 4th, he gained about 3 feet, but as I got into 6k-7k-8k of 4th, I gained and started pulling away. At that point we were doing 140 mph. We then slowed down. He was very surprised, as was I. The GTR had full exhaust for sure. Im not sure if it had software.... Gave each other thumbs up, went our separate ways.
I believe the stock GTR software shutsdown (lowers PSI) after 130 mph though... so maybe it wasn't tuned....

Speed comparisons are great but personally they really didn't factor much into my decision. I bought a GT3 for its proven durability, relatively low maintenance cost for a car in this category, the 911 heritage, and for the visceral experience I expect it to deliver on road and track. If all I cared about was having the fastest street legal track car I'd have gone for something like an Ariel Atom.
I'm sure the GTR is a nice car and it looks good on the road, but it's not for me.

My point was that some people don't realize how fast the 997.3 GT3 is in stock form.
At the track, I have yet to see a GTR come close to passing me, but I always pass them
maybe due to its drivers.

Hmmmm..... probably just wanted a more tunable car...

Looked at the gtr when i bought the gt3, liked it but figured it was the equivalent of driving at mach1 with a latte in the cupholder while embarrassing supercars. I wanted to be more involved in the driving experience though.
Thought that the Nissan warranty was quite specific about voiding coverage in the event the vehicle is tracked. Lots of discussion on the Nissan forums anyway. Great car.

Porsche has since raised the power to 500hp and added PDK ... oh ... and 520hp in the Turbo S and PDK ... and the new suspension geometry is -- from first hand experience -- far ahead of the 997.1 cars.
2010 Porsche 911 Turbo S coupe ... not a bad daily driver ... gimme gimme!
