Departed Yukon, OK about 6AM temp 28° and a light rain.
Local news said conditions would be treacherous, they were right!
Traveled 40 Mi in miserable conditions, the "butt-o-meter" went off a couple times then traffic came to a stand still. Reason; jackknifed semi collected a police car. Exited the hwy. and came to relize that it was close to freezing rain I was driving in...the whole front and mirrors were an ice berg.
Stayed there till daylight and headed out again...a couple of miles down the road, traffic stopped, for more than an hour, reason; big rig carnage.
Finally started up again....lots of sand salt on the hwy. then fog. Stayed messy until Amarillo, temps climbed to the mid to hi 40° range. Now the wind starts, blowing grasses and Tumbleweeds (hit a few). Entered New Mexico and at the welcome center they told me that the winds were 30-40 with gusts to 60...
I-40 Texas gas only 90 octane, whats up with that?
700 mi. to go and conditions look more promising for tomorrow!
Called it a day in Grants NM

Man, Porsche should pay you for being a test mule. Rain, sleet, wind, hail, ice, snow. What else can you throw at this car? Maybe the GT3 should be used for the U.S. Mail. Express or Priority only, of course.
Amazing ride!

Brian - careful out there, especially the sandstorm and tumbleweeds. Drove through one from SF back down to LA in an MB S500, had to detour. After all was said and done, the carnage equaled total repaint of the front 1/4 of the car. If you can wait it out per PogueMoHone, do so...
Stay safe - good luck!
