I'm thinking (just thinking) about getting a Ferrari California since I was left off the list for an RS. Any thoughts? Please be intelligent. Jerks need not respond.

Thanks.

If you are willing to pay a "Market Adjusted" price you could get an RS

Have you called around...the country..you may stumble upon a MSRP car

Go drive the california, its a nice car, but not a super-sports car or whatever title we really need to give to the GT3-RS. I'd buy a second had 430 Scuderia in preference, you should be able to buy one in the 230-240 range with >3K miles. As the previous poster says for the price of entry of a Cali you could suck up the premium and just buy an RS, even a 50K premium and most of the options will still leave you shy of the new price on a Cali.

Rumors are that the 458 will list between 220 and 250, so that's a bit more sensible pricing if true and not really much more than the Cali.

If you want a GT car (which the Cali is) I thoroughly recommend the 612, its stealthy, has 540 bhp, a V12 and if you let some one else shoulder most of the price issues, a "good value". 130-150 can now get you one. I have an '08 which I bought with 238 miles for 75K off of MSRP - I now have 15K miles on that (and another 15K on my '07 997).

Why not a 430 instead? You could get a superclean one for 160k.

I find it hard to imagine cross-shopping a GT3 RS and a California. They're such totally different cars.

GT3 RS is not anywhere close in approach to a California. It is like debating between a Mercedes SL550 and a Lotus Exige.

This was my thought also. They are both nice cars in their own right and interesting sports cars but beyond that the comparisons stop. There are a host of Ferrari's that I would buy before the California. Scuderia, Stradale, 430, in that order for me.

So get a GT3 instead, and with the extra cash you can get a NA Panamera, and definately you should forget about a highly taxed state that has an expensive car named after it

DerTub,

The California falls into one of three driver demographics .......
1. "Chics" car
2. Old man's car
3. Key West Blvd cruiser

The only close "F Car" comparison to the new RS is the Scud or wait for the 450.

When are you coming to Baltimore with your RS?

the california is not for you....

ferrari Scud is where it is at. Or at least a 599 if you actually considered a california.

you could always ditch the 996 for the extra cash factor and get a used carrera GT

Would have to agree with the other fellas but it depends on your intentions for the car... Would go Scud of 430 in preference to Cali unless you were wanting it as more of a cruiser. Personally wouldn't consider Ferrari if I were tracking just for the expense to run and maintain and the big depreciation hit you're likely to take (unless I had so much $ that I didn't know what to do with it...)

Just wait a little, economic times are different. You may still get an RS at msrp when the hype settles and the buyers are seperated from the dreamers. Sure they may be rarer but if the gt3s are anything to go by, those asking way over msrp aren't exactly selling. Alternatively, someone will take a depreciation hit and you can snap it up in a year's time. Who knows???

But than the new 997TT convertible looks pretty nice to me with vector torque, etc. etc. for the occasional track day. Maybe even an SL65? Or many other great convertibles for the road only, for much less $$.

To me certain Ferrari's are for the track, the others should not be Ferrari's...
