Although slightly off topic, I noted with interest that the newly announced RSR has a "4.0" engine sporting 450bhp ...
As I recall prior to the 997.2 announcement there was a lot of speculation regarding the engine that the "new" GT3 would have, would it be an evolution of the current GT1 based engine that the TT's and
GT had or on the new DFI engine in the rest of the 997 line ...
meanwhile as I recall the Cup/RSR was sporting a 3.8L block ...
I'd hazzard a guess that the next GT3 will be a "4.0" GT1 baed engine with 450 bhp ...

Alex, I read the Excellence article. I am sure it brought a smile to your face when he said the three best engines he's experienced are in the 959, Carrera GT and your GT3 3.9.
Congratulations.
Congratulations.

Thank you Muditha. It was a great feeling seeing this project through and we really wanted them to live with the car and hence the extra-long test to hopefully make it real

Oh yeah, congrats on that one buddy. To be mentioned with those two, especially the 959 (the mother of all street Poreches), must have really been a special moment.
Have you ever thought about preparing these motors for crate? But I know how expensive a stock GT3 motor can be from the factory!

Hey guys,
It's been a while since we updated this thread, so I thought I would post some new pictures.
We now have a few more 3.9L motor upgrades in progress. Our 996 GT3 was started, but with customer cars coming in, it took the back burner and will probably be completed some time later this month.
The current focus for James is completing two customer 3.9L 997 GT3s. Both happen to be white non-RS models.
So many white cars!
First up, the domestic GT3 shipped to us from southern California:
Bumper removed:
And more:
A void in the engine bay:
Ah, there it is:
Coming apart:
Old pistons/hardware:
New EVO studs:
Coming together:
Shiny horsepower:
SharkWerks/EVOMS 3.9L spec camshafts being prepared for installation:
Cam timing:
And it's almost done being re-assembled... then it will need to be installed, tuned and tested extensively prior to delivery.
I mentioned there were other 3.9L cars at our shop. The other 997 GT3 shipped to us all the way from Quebec, Canada for the upgrade.
Here it is, parked next to another Canadian car, a 997 Turbo:
It's interesting that we actually have yet another 997 Turbo (cabriolet) here from Canada that will be shipping back this week.
And before it has a chance to begin surgery, another 2010 997.2 GT3 rolls-up for a quick update:
Disassembly begins:
Motor removed:
A regular track junkie, he asks us to rebuild his LSD with Guard:
With all of the parts ready, James continues to assemble motors into the night...
More pictures and video to follow soon. Thanks for reading.

So with the cam timing done...
[
The rest of the engine is assembled and goes back in the car. The final touches include our exhaust (and tips) along with the 91 octane EVOMSit tune and she's ready to rumble or be broken in as another SW 3.9L is born:
We also added the gt3 radiator screen kit for protection:
With a couple of hundred break-in specific miles done we did the first oil change and now she's ready to be picked up and back off down to the Los Angeles area
I'm going to the airport to pick him up in Kermit too
The Canadian car is a couple of weeks away from being picked up but I'm especially interested to see how much of a difference there is from the LSD work performed by Guard. As a company I can't say enough good things about them. In fact, our 996 GT3 diff is over there right now
