Thanks Russo.. and for sure. With 50k we'd do rod bearings and bolts

A few more fun things for today fellas...

In go the lifters..

And the intake plus exhaust cam shafts...

There's a few fun tools here including the factory timing blocks that you can't really see... It's a two person job really with some MEGA wrenches

On goes all the top side "faff" including the wiring harnesses, intake manifold etc...

One other change we're making is removing the gt3 pulley in place of the RS one (also used on new 2010 997GT3s mind you) as we're getting a much more rev-happy engine here...

Original one comes off:

On goes the RS one...

In reference to the earlier post about the factory rear main seal and the leaking you get... this is a picture of how it's supposed to look- no leaks with the 996gt3 one.

Been busy for a few days so here's a few more updates and for the silver car

Here's those magic steel liners that help make the bigger 3.9L bore possible

Those trick head studs:

The rods along with new bearings and new rod bolts:

And installed:

All in...

Gasket...

More..

Some cam timing (two person job along with some factory tools and then some)

Most of it assembled...

Ready to go back in the car...

Back in the car...

The "stereo"

Then looking to the other lift we have a pair of other 3.9L's

That looks great Alex. So what is the secret in getting 500 hp/3.9L when the new GT3R gets 480hp/4.0L?

But the silver one was not yet done... Slight smell of coolant in the front and with 37.5K of unprotected mileage the front radiator was a little worse for wear...

Off came the bumper...

With some cleaning look at some of the stuff she'd collected:

Here's the old one vs' the new one... Not a pretty sight

With the new radiator in place we added some protection with the Cargraphic screens:

And now the silver one is ready for some action again.... but before you know it in comes another whitey:P

I am guessing the Sharky's 3.9L revs higher while the 4.0L must be some sort of stroker with more torque but lower rev.. (doesn't look like there's much room left for more bore w/ the 3.9L just from the pics..)

Just a wild guess...

cfjan, some truth to that 3.9 is done with a bore... Didn't want to necessarily stroke and loose some of the character and rev-happiness of the motor. In fact our pistons are even lighter than the 3.6

Bore and stroke is different but also we rev higher. Compression ratios are different:P We are using very light weight pistons too and then there's the different cam profiles:P They would have more torque down low with the set up they go for.

Thanks for all the interest, support and encouragement during this entire process guys... It's officially released now

I know there are a lot of Excellence Magazine readers here and some may have already seen it and ours just came in today. The latest issue (April 2010) features a familiar face on its cover:

With minor revisions to the graphics and a new set of wheels, ZKERMIT is back with its 500-HP, SharkWerks-built 3.9L motor to run alongside a red 2010 GT3 (this car may also look familiar, as it's owned by a SharkWerks customer and is featured in our project gallery here).

The article covers the editor's 1000 mile road trip in our car, through the finest backroads and hills to be found in the northern California coastal area.

Be sure to look for this issue at news stands and bookstores for all the high quality photos and some other good articles.

The article can be previewed by following this link. More information is available in our 3.9L product page here.

In case anyone wanted to see how the car looks with its new image, here's a quick video:
