Default rear brake cooling solution

cross posting this from the UK titanic GT3 list for all us rennlisters...

As many of you know, the 997 GT3/RS has a tendancy to eat it's rear pads.

ScottL managed to get some answers on this from Andreas at the recent GT3 preview day at Silverstone, and the bottom line was that there is not enough cooling getting to the rear discs.
As a result of this, the MKII GT3/RS will be coming with an extra brake duct to the rear discs to cure the problem, and the good news is, that these ducts are retro fitable to the MKI.

The part #'s for the ducts etc are:

997 575 531 90 air duct (L)
997 575 532 90 air duct (R)

997 575 631 90 bracket (L)
997 575 632 90 bracket (R)

999 073 516 01 M6 bolts x4

Thanks to the titanic guys for this ...

p.s
I have the german PET page available but it's too large to upload ...

Glad to help, but the kudos should go to the Titanic list in the UK, I just cut and
paste.

I dont know if we can get these parts yet in the US, I have asked Jeff Clark and Sunset Imports in Oregon to try and get them ...

Otherwise I will be in europe in July/August and I will pick up some while I
am over there ...

I will post to let people know the availability as I hear! I can always pick up
some spare sets while I am there for others ...

for what it's worth I checked the PET to see if the control arm (21) part # was the same on the mkII as
it is on the mk I ...

they list 2 part #'s for this part on the mkII:

-08 997.331.053.01
10- 997.331.053.02

PET for the mkI is the same as the 1st p/n above, so that is *some* indication that in fact they may
be retrofitted.

hope this is useful

Larry: Thanks for the post since we all need better rear brake cooling with the new brake bias. Do you have any idea if the parts will also fit a 997 GT2

beats me, I'm afraid, I am pretty certain that the GT2 rear suspension components (in particular the control arm to which the duct attaches) may be
different from the GT3's ...

The only way to guess is to look at the PET and the copies I have do not
have the GT2 listed ... if it helps, I did look at the 997 TT on pet and it does
use the same control arm as the GT3 ...

honestly I dont even know if these parts will be available in NA yet since the
car is not but I will let the forum know what Jeff@Sunset says ...

Yup with confirmation it will work, I'm in. I was contemplating doing my own little ducting with a fan but his looks leaner.

If I can get a set here I will let people know, otherwise I'll pick them up when
I am in europe at the end of July and post thereafter ...

The original titanic thread indicated that the retrofitting remark came from Porsche's head of GT3 project, and given that the rear control arm to which
it clips is the same part on MKI and II I think there is a GOOD chance this
will work ...

probably the best/cheapest mod for a mkI ... especially with PCCB's like mine,
I chewed thru the rears in about 50 laps of the ring when I did euro del ...
