Here are a few pics from various press GT3's very recently reviewed. They all appear to feature some rather strange (ugly) brass coloured clips secured by small bolts just inside the brake disk.
Anybody have any idea what on earth they are and if they will make it to the production cars??

Interestingly some of the the earlier cars reviewed didnt show these at all - the cars all seemed to have a clip/bolt free design that was somewhat nicer to the eye!

I posted this to Rennteam at the same time and somebody there has spotted why already! Looks like its PCCB (gets the clips) -v- Steel (no clips).
Anybody any idea why PCCB's need these ugly clips then?

Isn't that a function of floating vs non-floating rotors? Floating rotors use the clips (invented by MacLaren), and non-floating don't.

There is a difference between the steel & PCCB.
The PCCB disks are connected to the hub via screws & nuts.
From Product News
In the new 911 GT3, clip-type springs are added to the connecting elements, allowing limited axial displacement and improved radial compensation between the brake disc center section and brake disc. This improves true running of the brake discs under high thermal load and prevents brake judder even under extreme strain.
2007/8 connecting element shown:

Hmm - well they are UGGLLLYYYY! Looks like dental braces on your wheel!
If the price and the fact the steels are great anyway dont put you off PCCB's on a mk2 then the sheer ugliness will!

Remember the 997 GT3 had a recall on PCCB's to re-torque those bolts that hold the hats?
Well I think these new clips are there to keep tension on the bolts so they won't back out.....

Voluntary Workshop Campaign on certain 2007 model year 911 GT3 (997) and 911 GT3 RS (997) vehicles.
It is possible that one or more of the screws can become loose when the vehicle is driven, especially if the driver brakes frequently in the ABS control range.
A total of 266 US, Puerto Rican and Canadian vehicles fall within the scope of this Workshop Campaign.
