Default What Tyres for 997 GT3 ?

Hi There,
I'm waiting for my 997.2 GT3 ....about 2 weeks and,
What tyre's do you use ?
Sport cup are perfect for track days but in mixed use, there is there not a better compromise?

Michelin PS2 work just fine if street use is primary!

Agreed PS2's are great for street tires. I personally drive on the Pirelli Corsa System's because you just never know when you might drive down to the track and not have a set of slicks with you. The Corsa System's back to back with Hoosier R6's are a right about 1.8 seconds slower on a 1:30 sized track.

I think the sport cup really is the best mixed use tire though, it isn't as good as the Pirelli in 19" because the compound is wrong but it's better than the PS2 and it will survive some rain just try not to get in anything too crazy.

PS2's are more than adequate for street use. If you're gonna do the tracking you must dedicate a set of wheels for that purpose.

MPSCs don't last very long, but don't give much better performance. Stick with PS2.

Are you the same Brian S that has done the legendary DIY's on the E55?

I had PS2, cups and hoosiers on my 996 GT3. PS2 was a good street tire and track if it was so wet that there was standing water. Hoosiers are great!
I now have the corsa system and they are a spectacular tire. I think they will wear fast as it has a 60 rating but they work in the rain are fine on the street and very good on a dry circuit. I am still feeling them out on high g corners as most of my track time has been on Hoosiers.

Best all rounder for the car, be it daily plus occasional trackdays => Pirelli CORSA
* Safer to drive in the rain
* Lasts far longer than MPSC tho it costs a little more but I think worth it

I have tried both and I will stick to CORSA

Toyo 888s are great. They have some tread so can handle rain although standing water is, like the Pirellis and MPSCs, a bad thing and they grip really well and wear ok too. In the UK they are £800 a set whilst the Pirellis and MPSCs come in at £1200 a set....

DON'T TRY PS2 on your GT3...unless you're willing to transform them this way
