Paul, get a 997TT. It's a great car, the suspension just needs a better alignment and a new kit ($4k or less), like the B16 Bilstein Damptronic kit sold for the 997GT2 as an upgrade, it fits the 997Turbo. Everything else is fine, brakes, power, gearbox. Get one with the adaptive seats.

Even though you took a hit with the AMG, you're going to save much more on the 997TT, they are affordable right now, and they will keep moving on that trend.

If you want to take it to a racetrack once or twice a year, it will be fine. If you don't like the wheels, there are just so many aftermarket wheels available.

I'm glad the back is getting better, now I can take you for a ride.

OG - welcome back into the 911 tent! Once in, you can't really ever leave...

IMO, the 997TT is nice but you'll get bored soon.

i havent seen or driven my RS to date.... but once it comes out of the shop with all the upgrades installed you wont beable to get me out of it.

thus, i wondering if a stock GT3 is really that more harsh compared to a TT?

OG,
It is great that your back is better thus allowing you to be behind the wheel of a P-car again!

And a LOT better, less jiggly than any 997 GT3 I've driven. Multiple people commented on the superb ride and excellent, sharp handling in both PASM Normal and Sport, including 996/997 GT2 owner "GT2_josh" who has also owned GT3s and a CGT.

I can see your lay of the land, having come from 996 Turbos and 996 GT2s. The 997 GT2 is a totally different beast to the 996 GT2, and a vastly superior car (stock vs. stock) as a cohesive whole. It also makes the 997 GT3 chassis tuning feel half-baked (my opinion...), which isn't so surprising if you consider who was behind it and what they were up to at the time.

I get the sense that while springs only can improve a 997 Turbo (by tricking PASM into firmer, more controlled maps and limiting effective wheel travel), the key is the other $12k (I think...) in bits Champion installed -- including their bump steer kit. It's too bad when a bunch of readers called asking for the K1 supsension package, they said they hadn't put one together. Every now and then, I'll drive a magic chassis combo. That was one of them.

Pete understood... H+R's just slapped on a turbo just felt less in control over stock, terrible rebound and bounce too.. Sort of like my H+R COILOVERS on my ex 996TT, they sucked too!

I still have yet to drive a 997 GT2, after reading all of your praise upon it's suspension geometry and reworking/chassis rigidity over the GT3/RS I am so intrigued... Thing is, no one I know has one, and the people who do? I am not close enough with and they hardly drive their cars :/

The 997TT you drove i'm sure was stout, but farrrrr from stock seeing 12k was dropped in. Very odd they would keep the stock PASM shocks considering the money put into the rest of the car, and well with the option obviously of changing it, maybe they saw something in the setup and made it work wonderfully, as you stated. I on the other hand, have yet to feel that in a turbo, awesome cars indeed, just not my fun car after experiencing "real" fun car's

Bobby youre right but the TT is upgradeable to the nth degree.

Why would I need a good physiatrist? You are already admitting a problem by being in this group!!!LOL!!
This is something I dont want to be cured from!!

Other thing is: first blush with a 997 GT2 can leave you feeling like it's too refined, to the point it's kind of boring. Then you REALLY drive the thing, and new worlds open up thanks to its "refinement" -- places you can go in few 911s of any stripe. The speed is mind-bending.

And, I suspect, you've got to have a "really good" friend to let you drive one that way -- or be plumb crazy.

I did, too -- until that very surprising day. I had no idea a car that heavy could feel THAT light, that controlled, that predictable. And that fun. I felt guilty about the consumption, but not enough to get my foot out of it.

The real problem for all of these GTs comes when you drive a Cup or an old, but really good dedicated racing 911.

Yeah, I pretty much could have said "any good race car."

Very curious to drive a good Spec Box at some point...based on my time in the street cars, and modified 986s, it HAS to be a blast....
