Old Guy - I'm with you 100%... That's EXACTLY how I felt going from C2S to RS4 to C4S. I don't think I'll ever be happy until I get a GT3.

Paul,

So you are only down to the X5, or Merritt still has her 335i?

The 997tt is a blast. If it is street use I think it is an utter overkill as is.

if you want a REAL AMG there are ONLY three in every made.
Hmm the CL 65 and SL 65?
Gives me 450SLC, 500SEC and 450SEL 6.9 flash backs, that was the stuff I dreamed of as a kid..

No track car, but no MB ever is..But.. 60-120MPH is just mind numbing..

My old model W215 CL65, the one that someone else wrote off $130K in 3 years and 23K miles is the best road car I ever drove, with 734Lb of torque, huge brakes, direct steering and stiff ABC, lean into the corner suspension it feels like a small sporty car...

Add vented massage seats, all the gadgets and leather everything, not bad for $50K + 10K in tax and 7 year 100K mile MB warranty.

Old Guy,

I think you should drive a PDK before you make a decision. If you can wring everything out of a 997 (PDK), I can't, then the TT is the car for you

The TT in 2011 will probably have PDK (after a successful launch in the Panamera), so factor that in.. the day you buy, is the day you sell.

2-3 years from now (just like the F1 in the Ferrari) the "plebs" are going to want to PDK.

An economically oriented transaction, assuming a future trade, mitigates for a PDK.

Pongster
the AMG is gone (will be) We still have the X5 iS and Merritts 335i.
so the X5 which has had about 3K miles on it in the last year and a half.
It has 29K on it and I still just love the thing. i would love to put the
big 20" wheels on it (got the all weather tires on now) and just
look kewl. Merritts 335 is almost a C63 so she drives that every day.
I wouldnt mind getting rid of the X5 that would really widen my TT
budget then but damn it, it comes in SO handy for trips to Mammoth
in the nasty snow storms or going to Home Depot or taking 5 people some
where in comfort.

I hope is to track it occasionally. So what I will do is mod it as I can.
I hope to get one already done suspension wise. The GT3 is superior because
it comes track ready right out of the box. The TT has fixed springs and sways
so you are limited there unless you change them out. BUT you get the nicer street ride.
I am just limited because of my back. I was hoping to track my GT3s more than I did
but the physical limitations caught me. So those days are limited. Since I see a limited
track schedule in my future so I have to compromise. I think the TT is the best compromise
you can get, if you cant have the GT3. In the best world I would have a GT3 and my back would
100%

I am going to Bakersfield on Tues to get the AMG PPId so I will of course take your advice.
Jeff told me he loves his C2S also so I will make SURE I experience that option.

i would take the new 997pdk over used TT. the power is much smoother.
but you know i am biased against turbo charger and super chargers.

I've driven a C2S Cab and Targa4S on the Nordschleife, neither are a GT3
but they are pretty good ... and a buddy drove a C2S Coupe ... very nice

Ahhhh.... so that is what you have now. Gary (Carlsen) said that you were in the process of buying another Porsche and I scratched my head on that one.

I guess Mia and Max need the love too. The GTS kicks butt. Enjoy in great health.

Old Guy, great to hear that your back is better and that you'll be returning to the 911. If you would consider an '07 997 GT3 with very low miles or even want to build a 2010 GT3, PM me for details. It's not my GT3, even though I agree with Mooty (also saving for a dedicated race car).

Couldn't agree more actually.. I drove a renntech SL65 YEARS ago when they were exclusive and still in way in the 100's.. Getting into it thinking it would be blah, it blew my mind, not just acceleration wise (at the time my 996tt was 500 rwhp and 500 + rwtq plus lighter) but nothing beats that V12TT in feel! Then we got to corners rather fast and I slowed up dramatically, to then push it more and was like wow this car is flat as a board, definitely impressive!

PAUL IMO once again, go for the GT3, it's what you loved... Don't beat around the bush! You will like ANY car you get which is obvious, it's the new car syndrome, then you'll be like ehhh I want that gt3 a month later..
