well...
with each model change, there's a GT3 and RS. it's become commercialized, sort of like the M3's. are they really M3's or GT3's? so are they really special anymore? and if one misses this GT3 or RS, there's always NEXT one.

i know this question crosses my mind every 5 minutes.

Yeah, I really feel that the uniqueness of my 3 and RS have been diminished. Any new money may go into an older restoration, '73 911 S?

Mike, I have two more '10 GT3 slots up here and another low mileage '07 GT3 on the dealer lot. I guess these just aren't moving like they used to. PM me as well for more info.

911 S restorage is cool.
at least in nor cal, you would see a lot more RS than 73S
i prefer the 73S over 73RS, one you can drive, while the other you can only worship.

your avatar, 356. maybe u do a quad cam carerra ?

i got a call over the weekend as well even though I bought my 07 from the same dealer, some have passes since the lift and mounts are not available and retro is questionable for the lift.

Add these three up and you get - slow sales! Porsche is looking to shove out the door whatever they can sell right now, they really need the money!

So they pushed up the USA date looking to generate some early sales. If you don't need those options good for you, probably get a decent deal. But if you don't get those options then not enought difference from current car, so not much motivation to make a change.

Dilution hurts the customer, not Porsche - resale will be lower - Porsche will still sell all they make and generate profits. At the price it is still the best car in the world and people will want one if they have the money!

Beyond the factors mentioned above, I think Porsche really cocked up the timing on this release. For those in the US not fortunate enough to live in the sun-belt, we'll be taking delivery shortly before winter kicks in, meaning you're basically looking at parking a $130k paperweight in the garage for the better part of 3-4 months. Meanwhile, the RS will get announced and deliveries likely start in the spring right about the time you dust off the standard GT3 you've been storing all winter. Why even consider stepping up now if you have the slightest thought you might want an RS. So the GT3 v RS fence-sitters are on hold.

Then there's the GT3 v 911 fence-sitters. These are the folks that like the idea of a GT3 but aren't really sure if they could live with it in reality. If they've done their homework they know 1) the 998 is coming next year, 2) it's going to incorporate some pretty significant changes, albeit by 911 standards, and 3) the details will almost certainly be released over the winter. So at least a portion of this group is on hold.

That leaves the core group of GT3 fans that didn't buy a 996/997 Mk1 and still desperately want one - maybe because they couldn't afford it at the time or were dead-set against a sunroof in the case of the 997 Mk1. Plus those that did buy and are looking to role into newer version. Add to this the realization that GT3s are not collectibles and it suggests that the new customer pool has likely peaked, with or without economic headwinds.
