Default RS? make it lighter... not a pig.

GT3 lift system? Yeah, right. Combine it with the lightweight headlight system w/o washers. I would rather just rip off that front splitter than add the complexity and weight of a lift system. Who, at Porsche is making these decisions anyway?

I think they should take off at least 100kg from the GT3 when they make the next RS. The RS was always about significant weight savings and maybe a little more power. They seem to have lost sight of this in the 997.1 RS, maybe they can remedy this in the 997.2 RS. Having a lift system is optional - don't add it if you don't want it. It should not even be an option on the RS, it's fine on the regular GT3 IMO.

take it for what it is. RS is part legend and part marketing. granted porsche makes some strange decisions, but the gov't aint helping either with all the latest safety requirements that add wt.

and if they drop RS by 100lbs over GT3, that's really not all that much. now 300 lbs, i do doing back flips, but i dont expect that.

Thats what I've been trying to say in all these forums.

Take the M3, the first one was a race car with a licence plate. The rest...luxury car with M3 badge and 100lb heavier per new model. Yet I bought 5 of the "legend"

That's right.

Porsche GTx is moving fast down the M / AMG / S path. It's been very successful for BMW/MB/Audi.

the front lift system is an option. if you don't like it, you don't have to get it.

i agree. each car is more capable then the predecessor in terms of lap times, but gets a bit bigger/heavier....

so are you smarter than victor and i, and bought less than 5 "legends"....?

Also bear in mind that at the end this are all STREET Cars, and each generation is even better than the last one at the dual purpose of being a daily driver and a car you can take to the track.

You are all exaggerating that Porsche is going the way of AMG or M. The GTx cars are the only real showroom cars that can be driven straight to a track event with no issues. The 911 Turbo is the one that goes after the luxo barges and Porsche makes no false claims in disguising that fact.

The racecars are even much better, faster and more reliable than before too!
A 997 CupCar makes no compromises vs. the old 964 cups.

The point being made is that Porsche created the perception of a hard core track car with the 996 GT3 (ala e30 M3), built up a cult following in which the majority of people call it a racecar (some don't, but many do), and then slowly adds more and more options and features to make it more and more profitable, and detract from the original intent.

Another way of saying it...

On the street car to race car spectrum, let's say the 996 is in the mid-point. I'll bet that over with each subsequent version, the GTx cars will get closer and closer to street than they will race car. That's fine, except the image of the car is that of being closer to race.

Me? I'm looking forward to the convertible Tiptronic GT3 in 2015, with 4 spare tires crammed in the trunk, and a jack pre-loaded in each corner.
