Default Automobile magazine praises GT2, disses GT-R

Hey fellas, did you see the new March issue of Automobile?

It seemed pretty clear to anyone with a brain that Nissan was smoking something, talking a bunch of ying-yang a while back about posting a 7:29 on the Nordschleife -- on original equpment Dunlops.

Automobile took them both out in basically damp conditions and the GT2 still beat that 3900lb blob.

Their basic conclusion is they don't see any way how Nissan could claim a 7:29 on a stock car in any conditions.

A sports car company with decades of experience in making nothing but the best race cars must roll out its fastest and most expensive design to beat a Nissan. No doubt the GT2 is fastest, is this such an achievement? We're talking about a Nissan after all!!!

I hope this GTR hysteria gets Porsche to push the envelope further.

Regards,
Chris

yea, read that yesterday, looks like the GT-R is just slightly faster than my 997S around the ring.

and with its transmission issue, my desire of getting one is close to zero now.

From day one, I had doubted the 7.29 timing using regular tires n no boost upgrade.

It's the same story from months ago by Chris Harris from Driver's Republic:

Read the original and check the side by side video with commentary:

It's still remarkable that the GTR is not far behind considering it costs $100k less than the GT2.
I'm sorry but the GTR would crush your CS.

I never said my 997S was faster.

Now define what you mean by "crush", is one second around the ring, or 10 second around the ring means a crush. Your line really has no meaning.

As far as I'm concern, my car has no problem sitting in the garage and nothing will crush it except a big earthquake.

Well, I would hope so. The GTR costs more and is [cough cough] a Nissan.

The 7:29 time certainly is suspicious! But 6.9 seconds difference between the 2, driven by a 911 Cup driver (so I assume that he knows how to drive a rear engine Porsche better than most), that's not a bad showing from the GT-R!

What I meant by "crush" is the GTR is not in the same league as the CS, more at the 911 TT level. It is seriously fast.
Don't get me wrong I love Porsche but the GTR is an engineering "tour de force" and Nissan deserves some credit for it.

the nissan isnt really a comparable car to the porsche. (maybe the turbo)

it is more of a poor mans Lambo Gillardo..... both of these cars have about the same shelf life..

.................but not 7:29 around the ring credit.

They just need to come out with the truth......

Better yet, meet Porsche at the ring.....have Nissan buy a GTR from show room, have Porsche buy 997 Turbo from show room and go at it. The 997 might still lose, but let's see if that stock GTR will do 7:29.

Great car, but not that great.

I agree with you, just want to have some fun with the reply.

I was seriously thinking about getting a GTR at one point, great performance at a low price. But with the transmission issue, I would rather drive slower in my reliable CS.

problem with launch control on gtr is probably more likely a result of owner's 'enthusiasm' using it as opposed to most ferrari owners who never use theirs. any car that has lc will suffer repair issues if its regularly used

7:29
think of all the free PR they got with that little fib... was it worth it... of course
think of the hype for this car prior to the economy collapsing

it is bs and everyone knows it... as to them offering to give Porsche driving instruction when they could not duplicate the 7:29 with their showroom GTR... just another mortar round in the supposed battle...

Is the GTR awesome -- sure, technilogical marvel, Godzilla, new school, etc etc
Is it a 7:29 car -- well a Nissan test driver (suzuki?) supposedly did it... but in a bone stock showroom car on stock tires... it seems that Chris Harris and others cannot fathom it...

If it is so easy why don't they just do it again and let the press attend the event? I mean now that the car is out what is the big secret? Do it again and prove all the doubters wrong... seems simple to me.

Come on Nissan... the automotive press at large has pretty much said you are lying... maybe Porsche should give you some lap timing instruction in exchange for the driving instruction that you offered.
