The new GT3 with a slightly higher compression, DFI, more displacement, improved variocam on the exhaust will have noticible power increase and this will be thru out the power curve.
Yes it will be quicker, not only does it have to be quicker then the 997-1 it has to be as good or better then some other cars in it's class.

Compression is still 12:1 and there's no DFI...

The exterior specs for the new GT3 state "In addition, the sideplates of the wing are embossed with the engine displacement, 3.8, similar to that of the RS America from the early 90s." I have no recollection that my RS America had any such designation. Not important, but this bugs me!

Yeah, they have it wrong. It's the 964RSR that had that...

The car has a 3.8 RSR aero kit
Guess it was an obscure option

I think that was added aftermarket - just like the 993 Cup wheels...

It occurs to me that the increase in base price is a little misleading compared to what these things are actually going to cost given the new "options." For example, I am going to want sport buckets, dynamic engine mounts, and the front lift system, as I would imagine most buyers will. What's that going to push the "real" base price to? $120k?

At least Bi-Xenon headlights are free with the new car - they used to cost $1,100...

well look at it the other way, the base price is really reasonable
2004 GT3 base price was 99000-99500 i can't remember
now 2009 it's only gone up to 112k or so?
we should all be smiling.
