Default Yet Another RMS issue

Pulled the car out today to go for a little tour before the dreaded winter. While I was waiting for the engine to come up to temp. and there was the oil. Looks like this is a common problem, very frustrating. The 996 GT3 is fine after 20000Km and Oh ya no oil blow by at start up!

Is waiting for the oil temp to rise something that most people here do before driving?

Porsche recommends that you don't leave your car idling while warming. You're supposed to drive off right away without using much throttle and you're supposed to shift at low rpms when cold.

However, some feel this has something to do with fuel use and emmissions. In any case, the car shouldn't leak by letting it cold idle. It's clearly a design and/or part defect with the RMS...

I let the it idle for about 15 sec then drive away short shifting until warm. Just because the engine is warm you still have the gear box and engine oil to warm up too. So I do not operate it normally until I go about 10 miles. I used to let my air cooled car warm up about 1 minute before operating.

Now I'm really confused. I've been told by many Porsche drivers to make sure the car warms up for a few minutes before driving. So, I'm about to winterize my car for 6 months (no driving!). Should I just plug in the battery saver and not bother starting her up every few weeks? Please advise. Thanks.

+1

I have heard many motor heads say the above. Drive it gently until warm, then flog once nice and warm.

Mostly to minimize emissions - nothing over 3500 rpm for me until temps are up

Unwelcome to the party. Now you have to decide if you want to take it in for a fix that won't work.
