launch technique?

I was doing my first Auto x this year and getting into it. some of the faster cars were doing a pretty good launch off the line. the starter told me that I only and to get down a few more seconds to be competitive with the faster guys, so, I let er out at about 4000 giving it some throttle as I let out the clutch. I forgot to take the TC OFF and the computer and the clutch were trying to decide what to do. i burnt a crap load of clutch. I felt like a idiot. I have not done a hard launch since but i would take the TC OFF for sure.
I would say to be careful as a rear engine car puts allot of stress on the engine and trans because there is not much give to allow allot of wheel spine. also about 6 months ago a guy on this list was posting that he was doing some hard launches and busted a shaft in his trans doing it, and Porsche would not fix it for free because it was considered abuse.
so proceed with caution.

A few seconds in auto-x is an eternity and you will not be able to make that up without some drastic changes if it's even possible. It wasn't on the launch that they got you, even if you had a full 60 foot run like in drag racing, with comparable cars the fastest drivers would get say a 1.5, and moderate drivers would get a 2.0-2.2 though so there is something to be said for a good launch but the fast drag racing guys have heated slicks, a prepped track and a trans brake on their automatic with suspension matching their setup.

launching is fun, but our cars tend to axle-hop if you get it wrong. if you get it right, such as above...it's a lot sweeter. practice by trying to 'mini-launch' it at 1500 revs and get use to the footwork before you really go for the gusto @ 4500.

That was My last Launch to be sure, not worth it, our cars are made for turns, not off the line. Even hard shifts between gears is not the best idea, get the clutch out then lay the power down.
