Default How long do PCCB rotors suppose to last???

Took my RS to the dealer to change brakes pads (3rd set, OEM), oil change, etc. and got a call back saying "next time around you should think about changing rotors"...

Just for background, car has about 8,500 miles and have done about 15 track days with it.

Does this sound about right?

Thanks for the feedback.

- get them to give you the actual thickness measurements of all the rotors and then compare to the specs
- I have 30,000kms and 30 trackdays and they look good

basically the life of the car if not tracked. I have the origional rear rotors on my 996GT3 @ 57,000 miles. I am on my second set of fronts which made it to around 26,000 miles. Something does not sound right. The rotors will not lose thickness as much as the surface will become pitted and will feel like fine grit sandpaper. The Porsche shop has photos of different stages of wear. Ask to see them. Will Porsche replace the rotors under warrenty? They refused on the 996

there is no canned response to your question...rotor wear will vary depending on tracks frequented and driver style...I have 10k + miles with more track days than you and show little rotor wear...I'm on second set of pads...so with you on 3rd set already you are probably harder on brakes than I am, but I would be surprised if your rotors are shot unless you have used wrong pads or didn't bed them properly...btw...I always purchase pads myself so I am sure they are pccb compatible pads...dealers have been known to use the wrong pads which has resulted in toasted rotors...if they gave you the pads they took off check the part numbers to be sure they were pccb compatible pads....

I think they are trying to make some dough.
If you are using Porsche Motorsport Green then you should still be good.
There is a Service bulletin about Gen I wear, and you could make them
show you how the rotors have worn based on Porsche Bulletin

5200 miles, 20+ days on track, 2nd set of pads- now using PMNA green PCCB pads which are much thicker than stock, especially in rear. rotors look like showroom floor...

Proper Bedding-In is the key to long lasting brake rotors, iron or PCCB.

when putting new pads on used rotors: it doesn't hurt to go out and do 6-8 light pressure stops from 60-12 mph and then 4-8 more medium/firm from 85-12 mph. if you're feeling really frisky, do a few progressive pressure slows from 100mph-25 mph.

follow with a 5-10 mile drive at freeway speeds and voila you've got bedded pads/rotors.

I actually went to lengths to measure the rotors at 11000 km with a micrometer when the car was jacked up due to tire replacement. I found that the rotors were actually 1 mm thicker than the book says. I made a report and posted on rennteam, but another reader then corrected me and informed that the proper way to see how the rotors are deteriorating is to weigh them on a precision scale. Supposedly that is how teams in the Supercup do it.

You will notice a weight in grams stamped on the rotor hat, I think it´s there for this exact reason.

After 14000 street km my rotors show no wear at all, only rings from the pad material.

CJ, Do you find significant differences btween the OEM black and the Motorsports green pads? Squeal issues?
Thanks.

Anyone know where to find the spec thickness, new, of 2007-2008 PCCB rotors and the minimum thickness for recommended replacement.

My understanding is that ceramic rotor wear is not based on thickness, but wear patterns.

Weight & min thickness are stamped on the rotor hat!
