6 GT3 or 7 GT3??

Umm, are you guys saying 996 GT3s are in the mid $40k range now by saying there's a $50k differential? I just bought a 2007 with CPO (very light option) for mid $90's which compares with 996s I was finding in the $70's. For $20k and several more years of warranty coverage it was a very easy decision.
I haven't owned a 996 in any flavor but I will say I was very impressed with the 997 and it wildly exceeded my expectations (owned a 997S prior). Suspension was extremely good on both street and track (500 mile drive home from delivery dealership). Friends that have driven my car that own 996 GT3s were extremely impressed and as 3 basically said "What is in this thing, it pulls like a freight train and just keeps pulling..."

Interesting. This is the second car discussed in the forum that transacted in the mid $90s (unless it's the same car). If prices are indeed trending down to this range, the 6GT3 will start making less sense unless it too trends down into the $50k range. There is certainly a greater number of 7GT3s for sale on autotrader/cars.com compared to a few months ago.

I have followed prices (asking) in ebay and autotrader for 997 Gt3s and turbos for the last 6 months and my observation is that Gt3s are slowly going down and turbos are very solid at current levels. But I have not seen any 997 GT3 below 100K. This is just my impression...I may be wrong, of course. If I find a gt3 available for below $100K (not crashed, of course) I would make the upgrade from my 997S. Oh wait, my wife has twins on the way...I guess I would have to keep dreaming.

I would have searched more if I didn't make a deal within a few days of thinking about it to trade my Cup and cash for another RS.

What is this based on? The 997 does not have nannies to keep you in line. TC can be turned off completely. It does NOT have PSM or any stability management. And TC does nothing to keep you in line. I KNOW this from experience in both cars.
The 997 is easier to drive on the street and yes the 996 is more "raw". But as most have pointed out, the faster car is based on the better driver. Equal drivers - 997 has a slight edge, but as mooty said it is very small.

To my understanding in the hands of equal drivers the 7 GT3 has nearly a second on the 6?
I think most guys who have a 996 and maybe can't afford or justify the higher price of a 997 keep telling themselves they are a better driver because they don't have any "nannies" to save them. Give me a break. If the car will be a daily driver - get 997. It is more liveable on the street. But they are both STREET cars. Either car is fantastic! You will LOVE either one.

my impression is that the electronic brake bias/ABS really still acts to provide stability and is not defeatable. That is why alot of people still cook their rear brakes unintentionally at the track

lowest optioned 7gt3 = 106k or so.
most sub 5k mile cars are selling at msrp or 10k above
let's call it 110 then, but most of the cars i see changing hands are at 115 or higher. and i have helped locate and sold 8 of these cars in past 6-8 months (i am not a broker, i just like looking at them for my friends)
6gt3 can be had at 70-75k
delta is 45 or so.
but at 90k, i would take 7gt3 over 6 no brainer.

I did say mid $90s and it was a very low option car with 7k miles. Perfect condition, checked out fully (DME), CPO, the works. In my search I looked seriously at about 6 cars, all with low options, and none of them were above MSRP.

Perhaps the banking crisis is affecting the NY/Tri-state area more than other parts of the country. Such regional disparity should not be surprising...

i have both.
997 is the better and faster car, period.
but it's not 50k USD better (not sure price delta in newfoundland).
so if you are willing to splurge, buy 997, if not, 996.
they are very close in performance. whichever GT3 has the better driver will be the faster car.

One thing the 996GT3 could have done with is better ABS.
