As magazine articles go, that is a very good one.

Anyone care to comment on the discussion about the description on pages 8-9 of the "borderline NASA" oil pump that "provides the stability of lubrication of a dry sump system under extreme loads," and results in "greater fuel economy" and an "extra 3 bhp"?

Do you buy that the new system could be as track friendly as the dry sump from the GT1, or is this just wishful thinking from Porsche?

Interesting...seems like that cool machine that gyrates the engine around would sure tell the engineers if oil starvation was going to be an issue. Since the GT1 block still has RMS issues--perhaps this new design will address that and give more power for the GT cars. Porsche, being the most profitable car company in the world--probably has come up with a way to use the same blocks with just little tweaks here and there to up the ante on power for the GT models...brilliant...

Maybe Porsche will/should replace the GT1 motors that have RMS leak issues with the new DI 997 motor.

From what I've read, the new engine is a totally new block which is a two piece case and not the 4 piece as on the existing wet or semi-dry sump block in the current 996/997 cars. Also, the cylinders are now closed deck and not open deck design. Plus, the engine no longer has an intermediate shaft. In some important respects the new case appears to be quite similar to the existing GT1 case in the GT3 and turbo in that those are also two piece units. Apparently, the case has improved intregal bearings without the bearing carrier as found on the existing 996/997 design. Frankly, this engine sounds very intriguing. The oiling system employs a complex but interesting pump system intended, I believe, to give dry sump advantages while improving overall engine packaging. These kind of developments make the evolution of our cars quite interesting and fun!

As soon as I see the Carrera motor in the RSR, I'll believe in it.

The GT1 block will probably be on it's way out when an 8 cylinder motor is on it's way in...

I was impressed by the magazine layout itself, with videos embedded. Way cool.

good post interesting. Not to happy to read that the RMS issue is just a plan old design flaw that we were sold and they keep us trucking back to the dealer to put in a new seal that won't work. Roll up your sleeves put a design teem on it an fix it. Since i am still paying for my end of the bargain.
