Default New Appreciation for the GT3

Just finished two days at PDE and got a "Hot Lap" piloted by Cass Whitehead around Barber...INCREDIBLE!!!!

In the hands of a driver who can drive it is amazing..I've a long way to go

Lucky you! I had the pleasure of doing the 2 day PSDS program last summer. Though only one person (not me) got the hot lap in the GT3 (Cass was driving again, interesting), I was impressed at how flipping fast the instructors could lap in the Cayenne Turbo. What a great program.

Only two instructors are allowed to drive the GT3
Hurley Haywood and Cass Whitehead.

It's a real eye opening treat to ride with someone who drives for a living

I can imagine, i just did VIR in my GT2 and it was unreal, especially since I got a ride with an instructor who had a GT2 in my car, and was in awe !!

Where do they have the Barber events?

PDE (PSDS) is held at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham Alabama.
A 2.38 mi 15 turn track.
Not really fast but highly technical. Short straights Most corners are blind entry fast and fall away.
The most beautiful facility in NA
Nothing to do with Skip Barber.

A buddy and I hired Christian Coggins (he is one of the PDE instructors) to instruct us for the AL DE about a month ago. He mostly instructed, but drove my 3 for about 10 minutes. Given that Christian has about 20K miles on the track, he knows it cold. It was a blast seeing what he and my car could do. It help me a great deal.

I had a couple of days last summer with Wolf Henzler and Dominik Farnbacher (ALMS Tafel Racing last year, Wolf is with Flying Lizard this year; Dominik "the traitor" stayed with Tafel driving a Ferrari ) as instructors. Like your case, they mostly instructed, but I also rode along with them in my car. They're both amazing drivers and really good guys....and it's unbelievably helpful to see how hard these cars can be pushed. I also Traqmate'd Dominik driving my car, which is great for comparing my laps with his and see where I'm losing time. Pro instructors are about the best investment you can make if you want to get better in your car.

Haywood took guy for 2 very fast laps @ VIR back in 2003 in a GT3 Porsche press car. The passenger threw-up when he got out of the car.

I rode with Hurly at PDE and have never had motion or car sickness before but I was very queazy when I got out of the car. On day one I wondered why they had Dramamine on the counter when you come into the classroom on day two I took one.
