Question Whats a fair price to offer for a used RS?

I honestly feel my local dealership is just leading me on with my allocation. So I know someone who paid 35k over thats willing to sell his for his new incoming GT2. He is willing to give me first dibs on his car and I would like to know what is a fair price to offer him. I know he would like to come out almost even to what he paid since some people paid 40-50k 8 months ago to get such a car. The car has a 138k sticker and has all the important options I like. Its ORANGE ,1400 miles, owned by a collector not abused, pccb, leather and xenon. I dont want to be a lowballer but I dont want to be a sucker as well. What would be a fair price? Thanks in advance.

a GT3 RS in Germany with 430 miles is selling for 6k Euro under it's purchase price
a GT3 RS in the UK with 1500 miles is at or under MSRP

it appears there is still a $20k premium in the USA for low mileage GT3 RS

Germany and UK started getting their GT3 RS 6 months or so before we did

I am anxious for the prices to start falling here, but I think we need to wait
until the summer is over. At the end of 2008, used cars will be selling for
less than MSRP here too.

The person you speak of paying $35 over has nothing to do with what the car is worth.

it's not like there are dozens of Orange RS just laying around @ MSRP. the question really is "what's it worth to you?" and bid accordingly. you do have the other bookend (dealer markups) as a reference.

not that I have a dog in this fight so to speak...

$138K sticker, 1300 miles, equipped as you like...

I do not think a $150-155K cash offer is offensive, or it would not be to me if I were the seller. I might be disappointed, but I would slap myself for paying $35K over...

He paid $173 at 35 over on 138... that is not your problem.

I do not think he will be able to recoup the $$$ he has into it as he paid a pretty significant premium.

If you pay $155K, he loses $18K... that is $13.85 per mile driven

So throw in gas/insurance etc and it is like driving down the street letting a $20 bill go out the window every single mile...
Paint that picture and then follow up that you are actually doing him a favor taking it off his hands.

Good Luck!

Max Power, are you taking into account that the price for a new RS in England, etc. was approximately 180K?

Yes. There are low-mileage RSs over there selling for around MSRP, which was 95k-100k British pounds, depending on options.

Atan- you can always just

"make him an offer he can't refuse..."

but seriously- the guy can't really think he's gonna get that 35k or the money he paid in taxes back...that's like saying "well I replaced the tires twice, so I want an extra 3k." The car is worth something independent of his purchase price, bottom line.

I think 930man's offer of 140-145 is very reasonable on a 2007RS...but if you absolutely HAVE TO HAVE IT, and do the deal without a dealer and can save a few bucks on taxes...buying it for 150 wouldn't be so bad if you have to outbid someone else's offer or if it's a 2008.

oh and keep in mind if he sells it to the dealer, he'll get MSRP or less, and they're gonna list it for 30 over. bastards!

a gt3@1400 miles...that's not even used in my opinion.

Atan

Looking at your fleet of cars I think you will love the RS...I have a CLK black series and an RS(plus a few other toys) and I drive the black series during the week and the RS on the weekends!

I have to disagree with 930man...I think the RS is pretty spectacular it is everything a 911 should be!

agreed rick... they very nice cars and maybe i should think back on how much i enjoyed mine.. some other things came up in life that were more important at the time.. "2 young kids and a opportunity for a wonderful lake hose and boat to share with them" ... who knows if that opportunity didnt come up i may have never sold mine .. it was a perfect car .. but had the cup car and a gt3 at the time...

it is all what "You" really want in life.. it is special car.. but for the track... I would say I would run a gt3 with lwfw against 99.9% of drivers in an RS we would be even at the end of the day...

for the collector or person who loves to garage their car i think its a great investment if bought at the right price as long as it ends up being a low mileage car..
