Nice GT3, but I just can't bring myself to like the looks of the Z4 (even in M trim).

It pales next to your Porsche.

Agreed. Somehow BMW has lost the ability to design cars with classic good looks. But they still seem to sell well so I guess we're stuck with their new "design language" forever.

Great looking GT3 though!

I'm a Bangle fan and I think the Z4M is the best looking of his cars. A car doesn't have to be pretty to look great. It ain't slow either. Nice pair! Only problem is they should be white.

So assuming you have driven the Z4M, it begs the question of how you would compare the two?

Maybe not a fair question as one would think each car has a different target audience/driver.

Should have gone with an '07 Cayman S with the same color as yours at invoice. I personally like the M-Coupe for what it is, as for the design, I don't care that much because I don't see what it looks like when I am driving it; cars for driving, not making love to.

However, I owned a Cayman S earlier this year and went to test drive the M-Coupe. It was cramped compared to the Cayman and just was not nearly as smooth a machine. I realize it was not broken in, but everything seemed overly touchy. Not touchy in a race car kind of way, but touchy in an artifical intentional way to make the driver think this is the most responsive machine for sale and that its capabilities are higher than they really are. Does that make sense?

I actually considered trading my Cayman S for it just for fun (the Cayman was temprorary) but found out immediately I did not want to do that.

On the other hand, back in 1997 I test drove a 4-door E36 M3 for about 10 miles. I immediately ordered one for Euro delivery (an Estorial Blue coupe with a very light grey, almost white, interior), it was just that good. Since then I wanted an E46 M3 and had a hard time getting my hands on one, it took me 2 years on my dealer list by the time my number came up. When it did, I had just purchased a brand new 2001 Boxster a week before. Since the Boxster I have owned 5 more Porsches including my GT3 which I get in about 3 weeks, and a couple of Lotus cars, Elise and Exige S. I kind of lost interest in BMW after the Porsches, and I very much lost interest in Porsches or anything else after my Lotus cars. But now I'm back in a Porsche very soon only because of all the great things I keep reading about the new 997 GT3; I have not test driven one yet. I will keep my Exige S for now; it is my daily driver because I cannot resist driving it, it is impossible for me, it is just that good and pure. This GT3 better be pretty darn good to justify twice the price of my current big grin machine. If it is not, it will immediately be sold; like within a week.

Sorry, I think I got a bit off track there, I need to stay off the meds.

Nice new ride; tell your wife congrats!

I've always wondered why the Z4M roofline looks like it's a hard top convertible with the roof line being separated in an area near the rear windshield. Or is it a hard top convert?

I can compare it as I drove the car and the Cayman S too yesterday. Let me say the Cayman S is more
civilized than the M car. and I thought the brakes were non existant, compared to the GT3 or the M. THe Cayman would have been a nicer car for wifey but for me I liked the M car more. Then when you factor in the price was 7K UNDER invoice, there was no comparison for fun/price. The clutch is much easier than the GT3, and easier than the M car too. So for a wife the Cayman may be nicer. I think the M car may be more track oriented than the Cayman. I would have LOVED to have a Cayman S for wifey but the deal
was too good and when you figure how the dealer stepped me out of the 335 lease at no cost
there was no comparison.
But as far as performance I have the 1200 mile break in period and we only have 100 miles on the Z4
so I have to wait for a true comparo.

paul, the cayman has to be driven at very high rpm. on street, m cpe has more tq and feels faster. on track, i assure you cayman s is the better car. two z4m cpe melted while playing with my cayman s at LS. both faster drivers than i. one lost brakes, repeatedly. one was going sideway at most of the turns.

but you are right, m coupe is the better deal money wise no questions.
