Drain the case drain the sump change the crush washer on both plugs.
A little time saving tip if you warm the engine before the oil change the filter
cap will tighten up greatly. So loosen it a little bit before warming up motor.
then after motor is warm and you have stopped the motor (DUH) remove the
cap and change the filter and little Oring then replace cap.
I learned the hard way on the 996. I warmed the motor and I could NOT get the filter
cap off to save my life. then after it all cooled down it came right off the next day.

Oh Yea I had the cap wrench-- went and bought 2 more different ones and still didnt move.
It just swelled too much. The slight loosening thing worked everytime after that.

- Sorry but I have to ask a dumb question.

This is my 1st Porsche. Does having the oil change done at a Porsche dealer Vs. DIY affect resale? I can easily change the oil myself while my closest Porsche dealer is 110 miles away.

Thanks.

Ask the question of yourself - would it bother you to find out that there were DIY oil changes. For me, as long as scheduled maintenance was performed by the dealer, I'd be OK with DIY.

Those washers are cheap so it's good to change them but if you happen to have everything else on your hand but not the washers, you can change the oil and use the old washers at least for once.

if you really want to be ****, when you take out the cap of the oil filter, there's a prong in there. the tip of the prong has a rubber o ring. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE O-RING THAT COMES WITH THE OIL FILTER. this o-ring is very small, barely will fit your pinky. i change that o ring too. i dont know what it does, but i figured since i am there, i'll change it.

Mooty, I assume you change your door seals every time you open the door?
