Default Front Rotors for GT3/RS

I heard a rumor that the VW Tourag fronts rotors are the same ones as the GT3. The only differences is the VW version is about $200 less. Has anyone else found alternatives to the Porsche versions? They seem to develop hairline cracks rather quickly in the front even though the pad wear is much higher in the back. Not enough cooling perhaps?

I have heard that a good solution is to switch to Brembo rotors. I also have developed lots of cracks in my rotors after only three track weekends. I probably will need to replace the rotors after the next track event.

Any suggestions on the exact model of brembo to fit the 997 GT3? Or where to find any replacement rotor other than the dealer???

Thanks.

I am facing the same situation here. Thunderhill and Laguna fried my pads and cracked my rotors in 2 weekends.

I switched to Protosport slotted fronts. 1lb heavier compared to stock, but about 1/2 the price and last 50-100% longer. Call Paul at Protosport NJ. 973 839 5353 if interested.

I would like to see a Brembo alternative (with light weight hats) as well. Both front and rear although the rear would probably require a separate E-brake caliper.

Like Ryan I am using rotors from Paul. Slotted and long lasting. 24 track days on my first set. They are Porsche rotors that have been slotted instead of cross-drilled.

I heard a rumor that the VW Tourag fronts rotors are the same ones as the GT3. The only differences is the VW version is about $200 less.

Not quite true, but pretty close. The Touareg V10 TDI uses the same front brakes as the 996/997 GT3. Note this is true only for the V10 TDI: the V6 and V8 models use smaller brakes.

There are only two differences:

The Touareg rotors aren't drilled. Some may regard this as an advantage (no holes to encourage cracking), as they can be slotted. Also, the retention screw holes are placed differently, so it would be necessary to omit the retention screws, which should not cause a problem (the lug bolts actually retain the rotor to the hub).

This has potential for big savings. You might want to call Paul Weston at Weston Motor Sports for further info: 888 558-0631 He can arrange slotting of blank rotors, as well as supplying the rotors.

i think those are also cayenne S rotors no?

assuming that TDI or cayenne S rotors are same as GT3/RS, what's the downside if you dont slot them?

slotted and drilled rotors suppose to relief build up of gas between pad and rotor during braking.

The drilled rotors are to allow water to escape when you're driving in the rain and provide some BLING!
I don't believe any race cars have drilled rotors although many use slotted for gas dispursement.

absolutely... slotted has better cooling properties... _all_ the race cars use slotted.

ok, i guess i was not clear enough.
say if i put non slotted rotor and non drilled solid rotors on my car, and tracked it, will the rotors fade and cause "unsafe" behavior?
