Default looks like i have an oil leak, what is involved with a RMS fix? ...

- i am probably one of the highest miled 997gt3s (approx 9000miles) + 9 trackdays
- this is definitely a new development (garage floor hadn't shown any signs before this)
- so, from you gear heads, is this likely a RMS?
- if not, any guesses?
- if it is RMS, is replacing clutch / flywheel also required?
- did higher milage cars 996gt3 go through this or if it is RMS is it just random?

last question
- is it stupid, very stupid to do a trackday with a very small leak?

thanks

If it's leaking enough to leave oil on the track, you'll get black-flagged. Your engine can probably handle running a quart low. But the guy behind you who runs into a barrier after sliding off due to your oil - well, that person won't be happy, right? How much oil is on the garage floor 24 hours after you clean the floor?

Define "small". Mine would leave a teaspoon on the floorafter driving, but no more than that no matter how long the car sat. Seems to have stopped now.
My salesman said that it is just the car marking it's territory.

Replacing the RMS (the part costs about $70) does not require replacing clutch or the flywheel. Just to be on the safe side, make sure that they check both of those items when they replace the seal since they have to drop the engine to replace the RMS.

Can you pist a pic of the location of the leak? Id the drip on teh garage floor in the center of the car (left to right) and toward the front of the engine?

check the oil leak thread. it could be rms, or the 8 seals schatz also replaced in mine, or both

The dealership replaced the RMS on my 997S after 10k before I even knew there was an oil leak. It was happy to do it and it was certainly no inconvenience to me. I even wonder if there really was an oil leak . . .

I look at this as an opportunity to get your LWFW and RS clutch. This happened to my 6 GT3 and
while the motor was out I had it done free of labor. $1500 and youre done. never leaked again
My warning was only a drop.

- the leak seems small - maybe 5 drops after sitting 12 hours
- seems to have started about a week ago - not sure what I did if anything to cause this
- and for now definitely no where near enough to get black flagged on the track unless something else happens

- i will attempt to track it tomorrow and then bring it in

- hopefully the clutch and flywheel have oil on them and i can get them to put in the RS parts

- i know stuff happens with cars but an oil leak from a GT3 just doesn't seem right

- i will try and determine exactly where the leak is coming from and post a picture

thanks

RMS leaking is no big deal, it happens in 6gt3 and 7gt3.
watts' situation was not typical (i hope it isn't).
i have put 300 track miles on 300 street miles on my after RMS leak, small leak, silver dollar sized after 1 week or not moving the car.

if your flywheel and clutch is oil contaminated then dealer will warranty that. but mine was clean and smooth like it was day one.

Default What was outcome of leak??

My car hs about 1100 miles on it. I now have what appears to be several small areas of oil (??) on the garage floor beneath the center of the rear part of the engine. I was wondering what was the outcome of your leak? Was it an RMS issue? Did you change the flywheel and clutch as suggested?

no, my car was parked for a week. i HAVE TO WORK SOMETIME you know!!!

after one week of not moving the car, i got about a silver dollar sized drip on the floor. talked to my service guy, and i drove 150 to track, put 300 miles on track, drove 150 miles home then my RMS arrived. fixed and not it's fine.
