I dont know why you guys think using equity is foolish. I have maybe a modest income compared to some here but I have a ton of equity in several places that I own I happened by luck to have bought in the bottom of the market here and refinanced at 4% when prices were going up(rates are lower on your primary residence)-I used my house to finance my first Porsche at almost no cost to me in cashflow and went from a 30 year loan to a 15 year loan. the other properties continue to appreciate and I dont touch-that and my 401ks and all kinds of annuities I have invested in for retirement so
without know each individuals situation its ignorant to say its foolish.

I'm old, relatively tall (6'1") and fat... and I fit. You could fit -- getting out may be a problem.

i said if you are <200lbs and 6 foot or less you WILL fit, for sure.

that doesn't mean if you are bigger, you will not fit. only means that if you are smaller, you will fit for sure.

in your case, obviously you do.

I'm 6'4" 200lbs. I spent a day driving an elise recently. I couldn't believe I fit so well! No real problem, but in town I look over the the windsheild to see the stop lights, and could probably not put the roof on with my helmet. Not for a daily driver, but suprisingly comfortable.

Nearly 6'5" here ... wide shoulders, wide hips ...

Don't think I'd fit.

You have slightly more assets that just your home. That changes everything. If **** hits the fan you are not going to be homeless.

Lets clarify what some of us think is foolish.
Owns just one house and paid down a significant portion of it already. On paper value is high due to high market. Takes out a HELOC to buy a Porsche.
That is bad.

Well then I got huffy and puffy for nothing. Youre right and I see your point. I have other assets and those are considered non usuable except for retirement my home equity it not one of them. Actually I can see youre whole point now actually if thats your ONLY asset that could be a huge risk-I didnt see your point that way I apologize.
