So after getting the seal fixed, my car STINKS inside now.
Its very hard to describe the odor, but anyone think that the odor could be left over from the work they did on the car?

This sucks, I went from a clean new smelling car and now this

I cant drive with the windows up without it bothering me.

Any ideas?

John, you think I had a RMS leak and they just wanted to keep it covered up?

You'll have to describe the smell.
Oil?
Body Odor?
Anything in-between.

We had a helluva stench arise in the Prius after a stay at the dealership. A mouse had climbed into the a/c inlet and was killed by the fan. THAT was a smell and the fan was blowing it into the cabin! Blecch! The only other time the Prius smelled foul was when we left a diaper (neatly folded and sealed) and it hid under the back of one of the front seats for a day or two until it got sunny ... fortunately that was solved with just open windows and fresh air.

Other great smells I've encounted in newer 911s are burned insulation (sound, heat or electrical) or foul water stuck under the dash or carpet (from the a/c or a blocked drain or a leak or condensation.) Someone else reported a very wet rear foot well, so maybe your car leaks and was left outside in the rain for a day?

In any case, it's warranty, so back to the dealer. Let's hope you can land a nice loaner. I'm curious to know the cause of the dreaded dank diaper disaster. : )

I'd bring it back to them and have them re-clean the interior. It is also possible that it is just grease that is burning off.

My 2004 GT3 leaked oil at about 3,000 miles and at a year old. I first noticed small stains on the floor right after the first oil change. Leaks were very minor, I never had to add oil but I did not drive the car often or for long trips. My dealer said the leak was from the RMS. The seal was replaced, no problems for about another year then the stains came back, again very minor. This time I did not have it repaired but instead sold the car to my dealer and have ordered a new turbo. My dealer said the RMS failed again and was caused from not driving the car often. I was told it was a rare problem. If it is your RMS and it fails again you may have a defect in the block which should be cause for a new motor.

So you're saying "every puddle has oil on the clutch lining?"

(just kidding. horribly contrived attempt at making light of a dark situation. "every cloud has a silver lining" ... pun ... sorry ...)

But it is interesting to think you could go with an RS flywheel while this goes on.

Let's all agree to no longer refer to RMS which evidently is no longer PC and instead use the new Porsche-approved term "flywheel leak".

On a side note, I recall a long writeup by Bruce Anderson in Excellence chronicling the entire history of RMS leaks in the wet sump motors. He said something about Tips being less prone to problems than Manuals due to the heavy flywheel.

Moral of the story: ltw fly is preventative maintenance.

+1

i've heard the weight of the dual mass flywheel has a lot to do with the RMS leak. my LWF was installed 60K miles ago and i have had no RMS leaks on my crap (someone else's description not mine) m96 block'd motor... and i am closing in on 100K miles

percentage wise, there "seems" to be the same amount of gt3 RMS leaks as there are 996 carrera RMS leaks. there are just a TON of 996s out there so you always hear about them.

BTW, I am still getting black 'splatter' on the back/lower rear bumper of my SY gt3, just less of it and the spots are smaller and finer.

Ill take a picture later and post it.

After the car is completely clean, if I go for a 30 minute drive, the black stuff will be back on the back bumper.

Is this normal?
