Oil leak on my 997 gt3
#19
There were a small number of RMS issues with the prior GT3. My vague recollection was that the RMS leak was not traced to a defect in the casing, but had a different root cause. Maybe a 996 GT3 guru can clarify.
But anyway, that sucks. Let us know how it goes.

Ok, here is the final word.
It was a flywheel leak and not the RMS leak.
BH porsche is fixing everything and will have it back to me tomorrow.
I am not sure if this is good news, but the rep said it was easy for them to fix

Edit: what's a flywheel leak?
Greg, provided it's not a casing related defect, I wouldn't sweat it. I know I wouldn't. Schit happens, these are mechanical devices and are assembled by humans.

yeah ... what is a flywheel leak?
Let's have their tech take a few pics, please.
I really don't want the flywheel on my car to start leaking ... should it be rotated ... like tires? They leak; right?

ill find out tomorrow more when i go in to pick her up.
on another note - since i had picked up the car - i always had a splattering of oil on the rear bumper of the car.
Anyone else seeing that?

1)engine was incorrectly assembled due to human error/negligence/inexperience - who knows what else is in variance in your motor
2)there is a batch of defective RMS's that have made it into the line - who knows how many GT3/RS/TT's start leaking
Neither scenario is good
