Default RS single mass, aka light weight flywheel and ECU ignition programming

I noticed in Excellence the factory applies a new ignition program for the RS given the change in characteristics with the 18lb reduction in rotating driveline mass with the single mass (aka "lightweight flywheel" aka LWF aka LWFW ...)

If you're going straight to the lightweight flywheel, see if your tech can get the RS update on their PIWIS ... : )

I assume it's for stalling issues same way as in older 993s, I doubt it's a problem as is and if it is, new programming can cure it.

I wouldn't be surprised, since they've also lightened other reciprocating components etc., the whole engine has less flywheel effect. The Excellence piece suggests it was to take advantage of faster attack on timing advance because the engine could spin up rpm quicker than the boring old GT3. : )

It isn't for stalling.. Stalling issues haven't been around since OBD2.. With the exception of clogged ICV's.. They are adjusting timing to maximize the benifits of the lightweight rotating assy. Now only if they installed the same rotating assy in the turbo motors..

Essential speeding everything else, including timing to maximize the LWFW's ability to "spool" up so quickly, correct?

You can use a Unichip piggyback unit to reprogram the ecu and take advantage of the lighter flywheel.

why would you do this?

The Bosch Motronic unit can be reprogrammed, if required, its much simpler, less complicated and safer to do it that way. Of course it assumes that somebody can RTFM, and if they can't do that WTF are they doing mucking around with chips anyway?
