Default US RS weight savings

so we know there's the 44 lbs difference between standard and RS for ROW models

but we don't have the rollabr and CGT seats in the RS for US and we have the sunroof on the regular GT3

so do we expect something like 70 lbs weight difference in US cars?

Dude your post is confusing. What are you asking?
Are you asking if the GT3 NA vs ROW is heavier, or are you asking about the RS NA vs ROW?

Both the NA and ROW RS DO NOT have sunroofs.
The ROW has the lightweight seats, NA gets the heavier seats b/c of stupid US smart airbag laws.
The ROW gets the rollbar the NA does not.
So the NA car saves the weight of the roll bar - how heavy it is I don't know, but the NA cars obviously save that weight BUT they gain the weight of the smart airbag seats.
We also dont get the lexan glass which accounts for a 3kg saving for ROW models.

But can someone confirm that the ROW RS has an aluminum front hood and the NA has a carbon fibre hood?

So if anything the weights will be similar, perhaps the US car being only slightly heavier.

All varients of the GT3RS come with a Carbon Fiber front lid.

Trying to make sense out of the weight differences is difficult.

The published curb weight of the US GT3 is the same as the ROW. 3075 lbs
Differences: the US version gets the sunroof (unaccounted for + lbs)
Smaller fuel tank 17.7 gal vs 23.8 gal (ROW)

Published weight for the GT3 RS is 3031 lbs
That however is the ROW version which has the shell seats
Add back 52.9 lbs (24kg) for the Sport seats the RS weighs in 8.9 lbs fatter than the ROW published weight of the GT3

PCNA advised dealers that the RS would be 44 lbs lighter, but this is baised upon ROW weights and they did not add back additional Sport Seat weight (52.9 lbs) Glass vs Lexan weight +6.6 lbs, or subtract rollbar.

Actual US weights are not published.
Weights published are derived from ROW weights.

My guess is thet the US version of the RS will tip the scales equal to or a tad bit heavier.

Go figure

yeah i was thinking removing the rollbar would offset the added weight from the sports seats

so we would be back to 44lbs or so+ the sunroof weight?

So to summarize - no shells, no rollbar, no larger gas tank, but same great price!

- Rollbar Weight on the 996 GT3 RS: 37 lbs (just the rollbar, not the full cage). The 997 RS version has extra bars. I would expect it to be at 40-42 lbs.

- US cars have extra weight due to bumper hardware reinforcement. On the 996, that was 18 lbs more compared to the ROW 996. This is necessary to pass the 5 mph DOT crash test.

- I don't have the exact weight for the CGT style CF seats for the 997 GT3. However, the Carbon 996 Recaro seats weighs 25 lbs, and the popular fiberglass one weighs 28 lbs. I would not expect the 997 GT3 CF seats to be lighter than 22 lbs. These weights include the rails, brackets, shells and cushions.

- The 996 Carrera sunroof weighs 23 lbs. It's actually one of the lightest sunroof available on a street car. The 997 sunroof looks identical to the 996 one.

- PCCB save 37 lbs on the 997 GT3 and 42 lbs on the 996 GT3.

- A/C delete saves 45 lbs

The only problem I see so far, is that every European magazine has published weights not closed to the 3075/3031 lbs for the 997 GT3/GT3 RS. The increase on real weight (and not published/marketing weight) is what makes the 997 with an extra 35Hp, shorter gears, and r-comp tires not to be able to accelerate as strong as it should compared to the 996 GT3 Mk2.

Indeed, the 20Hp increase on the Mk2 GT3 from the Mk1 GT3, made the car around 0.6-0.8 secs faster on the 1/4 mile. There was a noticeable increase on acceleration.

NJ-GT

Paper tells you a lot, but real world driving expriences tell you a whole lot more.

The 997 GT3 is a marked improvement (IMO) over the 996 GT3. After you have compared the two, back to back, let us know what you think then.

The 996 GT3 was good, but the 997 GT3 is something special!

According to my order guide the RS has carbon hood and wing, lightweight rear glass, aluminum doors (like the TT I suppose), no undercoating and the lighter flywheel. I will weigh mine when I do the corner balance but that won't be for months.

Bob,

The GT3 doors are exactly the same as the TT doors!

The US RS order guide published this week also indicates 'door storage bins deleted'. Good for a few pounds...
