There are even more features excluded from the USA GT3 RS. See the header of this Autoweek article from May.
So in summary, the USA GT3 RS is apparently nothing more than a ROW GT3 with wider rear fenders and a tacky 70s paint job. The only reason to get one of these would be to avoid the sunroof mandated on the standard USA GT3, until you realize that you would actually be paying tens of thousands MORE to actually have something DELETED. The words "counterintuitive", "illogical", and most importantly, "ludicrous" all spring immediately to mind.
After closely following the developments regarding the USA versions of the new GT3 and RS, I think Porsche is simply looking to rip off gullible American customers with more money than common sense.
At this point, I am more interested in a used 996GT3. And once the 997GT3 arrives Stateside, market values on the former should fall to an even more attractive level.

Wow, that's a pretty big F'ing joke. Porsche is getting a little out of hand with this. They couldn't possibly be charging a $10k+ premium over the regular Gt3 just for a paint job, CF wing, and some cosmetic interior pieces could they? I'm speechless. It doesn't sound like a big leap before they start pumping out Gt3 RS tiptronic cabriolets w/ optional woodgrain dash trim!
I have been considering a 997S, 996tt, or 996 Gt3 in the next 12 months or so, and at this point I'd also be more interested in a 996 Gt3.

Help us out and write a letter to Porsche AG and/or Porsche Cars North America. Many of us have done so but it is going to take more effort to get anywhere on this. Another model with less than the RoW version is bad.

JFT;
Read the fine print as I pointed out on the other 'order guide' threads. Unfortunately is still says sunroof for US and Canada in the 650 sunroof option description.
As roberga said there has not been a North American 997 without sunroof because they haven't crash certified one.

Page 19: 650 sunroof option description states that sunroof is i) a cost option on ROW GT3s, ii) standard on all US GT3s and iii) not available on the RS anywhere "-".
Page 8: Sunroof is standard equipment for US GT3s. But not for US RS since they write "911 GT3" after the description (to signify it's only applicable for the GT3).
Maybe the order guide is faulty (given your insight into what cars Porsche has crash tested in the US) , but as it's written it's quite clear that there is no sunroof for RS in the US.
