I still stand by the PCCM+ being the best upgrade I’ve done, my car already came with a Sharkwerks exhaust otherwise that would probably win. But the usability of the upgraded head unit and it literally bringing it up to 991.2 PCM spec is pretty amazing.

However, I know this unit is a fraction of the cost and does the same thing.

Im not that diy focused and I was able to install the PCCM+ with zero issues.

I’m in the same camp and strongly prefer to do the PCCM+ when/if it becomes available for 997.2 but I admit I sometimes get a bit impatient waiting. I prefer stock/very-close-to-stock look with BT functionality and have a few cars with aftermarket units - e.g., E34 M5 and F355 both have Blaupunkt SQR 46 radios that are modern but look period, my 993 has the single DIN PCCM from Porsche. Currently my Vantage, M Roadster and 997.2 RS all have a Bluetooth dongle of some sort but the 997 is the weakest one - it works but for some reason doesn’t auto-connect so I have to dig my phone out and force it to connect every time. First world problem but all my other cars connect automatically.

If you have PCM in your .2RS, I’d get a CarPlay module for it. If you have the standard CDR, then I’d be using the head unit mentioned here.

I actually don’t care about the Bluetooth / CarPlay much, as I don’t really listen to music nor talk on the phone much especially when the car is just so loud.

I do want to install reverse camera as I live in the city and need to back into extremely tight and/or busy areas. So having backup camera is more of a safety thing

Unfortunately I have the most basic radio for my 7.2, so it’s like a super expensive camera (and screen) to go PCCM+. This Aliexpress is a cheap alternative, but I lose the factory look … I guess I just gotta pay to play …

My car had the PCM but the Aliexpress unit is a massive upgrade. The screen size but especially the screen resolution and quality is a massive step up over PCM 3.0. The PCM’s screen really feels like a 15 to 20 year old LCD at this point.

I also think the sound quality is an improvement over PCM, even on FM to FM. Finally, it’s cheaper than any of the reputable CarPlay PCM retrofit solutions.

The sole reason to stick with PCM in my opinion is if you’re really after a factory look.

Has any one added a reversing camera to the Aliexpress unit? Mine didn’t come with it but I think it has the capability

is it plug and play or what kind of changes do you need to make the camera come on when you engage reverse?

Thanks!

I didn’t know anyone made them. I used double sided tape, some have used a Velcro strip. It doesn’t move around or rattle at all in my case but I would be interested in a more permanent solution also
