RS 3.8 to RS 4.0 Suspension Upgrade
#31
Has anyone run the Road & Track setup? Seems like the discussion here defaulted to TTX, which I know are superior, but would R&T be a meaningful improvement on stock? TTX seem overkill for street + 1-2x / year track use ?

On paper, and factoring in cost, TTX is probably overkill for 90-95% street? But we do stupid things that defies any sort of logic and rationale when it comes to cars. So I say go for the TTX!
I'm actually talking about myself, I'm the dummy who's going TTX...

After a lot of back and forth research I thought I would do the TracTive setup when my OE suspension gives out. But as time goes on I’m fairly certain I would go R&T. The thought of the digital controller for the TracTive setup seems obtrusive. One of the reasons I sold my GT4 and got into the older GT3 was the lack of buttons. You get in the GT3 and drive it how you want and it will respond how you want. With the GT4 it was always push that button, not that button, rev match, exhaust, etc.
With my very positive past experience with the R&T setups on other cars, alongside Ohlins great customer service, I would not hesitate to use the R&T setup on my 7.2 GT3.
For a more track oriented vehicle the TTX seem great but my only experience with them is as a passenger on various M cars. Certainly not as road trip friendly as I prefer but I skew less track oriented in favor of back roads and the like.

Yes, I believe there are some folks who are running the R&T setup. Maybe they'll chime in.
It's difficult to quantify "meaningful". For my personal taste $/performance = lower track times, not meaningful to me. If more compliant ride on streets/less bumpy then perhaps that could be meaningful or an OEM shock gets blown out, it would be easier to replace with R&T. My $.02

I certainly wasn't suggesting that I would be pragmatic about this, even if provided with pragmatic advice.

I’m not certain R&T is an upgrade over OEM on a GT3. The biggest reason to consider it is lower cost. But I don’t have an oranges-to-oranges comparison experience. I had Ohlins R&T on my 996TT. I went from OEM to JRZ 12.32 on my 997.2 GT3.

TTX is a waste for anybody that doesn't really go to the track alot, or know how to setup double adjustables properly.
R&T alot cheaper than 4.0 parts, will give you alot more adjustability. For the money, the features it provides is really, really impressive. Would not hesitate to run those for a mostly street application.

I've had both on multiple cars. I had the R&T on my .1RS back in the day, and they are great. Yes, it would be a big improvement over all stock setups (including 4.0) and honestly the most ideal for an occasional track day user. Single adjustable, very easy to adjust and soften for street use.

Agreed, had both. In fact two different versions of V3 on my 964. They are jarring just to be jarring. The R&Ts were an absolute game changer in my book. VERY compliant. They really only got on the stiffer side of things after I added RS front and rear bars and tarett drop links.

I have the Ohlins R+T on my 996 gt3. Lets you have your cake and eat it too. More compliant than stock on the street and when you crank them up they handle the occasional track day quite well. The single **** is perfect for suspension neanderthals like myself.
That said, they have a pretty narrow rebuild interval especially if tracked. Whenever mine need a rebuild I will probably try something else for no good reason other than variety.
