Default 997.2 seat question

Got a rookie question......Is it possible to swap factory 2010 GT3 seats with harness capable seats that do not mess with airbag sensor stuff?

Do you have the sport seats currently in the car? The optional OEM bucket seats are plug-and-play and offer harness support. They have built-in airbags, but you will have to disconnect the battery prior to removing the seats or you'll get an airbag fault. Also, the bucket seats are not cheap these days and are hard to come by, new or used.

You could go with aftermarket seats but will have to code the car afterwards, so that the airbag and seat occupancy faults are no longer present on the dash.

Thanks ilko,.. and lake911 for asking the question. I've also pondered the same thing,..

my wife loves the heated 18-way sport seats in our 997.2,... but I've often wondered whether it worth trying a drivers bucket for myself. Being able to swap in&out might also be fun for the different events my wife & I use the car for

yes you can run both 14-way and LWBS… you just have to be super careful that any unplugging you do is with the battery disconnected. Which can be difficult because you need power in the seats to expose the bolts.

So unbolt the seats, then disconnect battery, then remove seats.

LWBS hurt my wife’s lower back so she refuses to go anywhere w/me, so I’ve neglected to tell her I could put the 14-ways in one side…

Good one Dan on the deception - I definitely chuckled

But you also bring up something else that I've been confused on. Liste-Renn described the seat options for 997's,... & told me that I have 18-way seats in my 997.2. For some reason I always thought I had 14-ways (& probably got that from our 997 GT3 subforum),.. but I also can't find the P01 option code on my build sheet, nor window sticker.

I posted back to Liste-Renn in this thread (my reply is # 810),... pls check out the discussion,... & if you can help set me straight....
... maybe it was different choices for GT Motorsport cars, verses regular production??

Oh, and similar thoughts to OP lake911,... will we need a Durametric to code out the airbag fault light?

yep your picture shows all, the 18-ways have those 2 little extra buttons… I’m no expert but I was told those were new for the 991.1 but backward compatible?

A little clarification here on the types of different seats. The Sport Seats can be 2-way or 18-way (there might be an in-between option, too, I forget). The 2-way sport seats were standard in the 997-1 and 997-2 GT3 and 997-1 RS. 18-way were optional on all. Buckets were optional on 997-2 GT3 and standard on the 997-2 RS. Hope this helps.

I just did the seat swap a couple of months when I picked up a 987 Spyder. The seats the car came with were the standard 2-way Sport Seats, so I could disconnect the battery prior to removing since they have the manual fore/aft sliders.

yep im still confused because lots of experts in threads on 14 vs 18 that conflict… ultimately I’ve seen 4 seat options on the 997… half of me wants to go out to the garage…push buttons and see how many “ways” I can count LOL

If we want to get very nerdy, the 997 cars were technically not 18 way seats. They were 16 way seats. But no one referred to them as the number of ways they adjust in like they did on the 991 cars.

For North America, for the 997.1 GT3 there were sport seats (some would say sport seats plus), which were the manual seats along with the adaptive sport seats which were the 16 way seats. The .1RS was only offered with the manual sport seats as far as I know. The adaptives were never offered on that car.

.2 GT3 could have had manual sport seats or the adaptives or the buckets. The .2 RS I think had the same options.
