I bet dealers or most places don't even change the small o-ring unless you ask for it

Good idea. Price on that tiny piece is ridiculous. I just bought 3 from FCPEuro for $12 a pop. That's just silly.

Last two changes were with Motul 300v 5w-40, and I think the first change was done by the PO with Motul 8100 5w-40

Here's my follow up report for the next year. I ran the car a bit harder and had a lot of more idling time. I'm guessing the oxidation is from 300V having esters in it, but I'm not certain. Copper is still elevated so who knows.

maybe there is copper in the throttle body pivot that failed for Elliot, just a shot in the dark

What’s the mileage on that oil sample? Both car and interval.

18k on the car and 1300/1yr on the oil. It’s a bit hidden on this analysis in the left side.

Isn’t the flap in the intake manifold only on the RS?

I don’t think 30PPM copper is that high for this engine. We know when new, readings are in the 60PPM and higher range, and continue to decrease over time as the engine wears in. As long as the levels are not increasing, I would not be concerned. see what they come back with on your next sample.

What’s with the crazy spike in magnesium? Did you switch oil types/brands? Maybe it’s part of a new additives package.

I’ve run M1 0W40 ever since I’ve had the car. I believe M1 made a change and started including more Magnesium.

Eagle eye!! I was surprised myself to see it with no mention from Blackstone in the report. It has to be a change in the additives since magnesium is a detergent, but I've only been using mobil1 0w40 since new. I suspect there was a formulation change because I don't add anything extra to the oil. Curious to see the report next year.

Liqui Moly changed their additives package also so this is the most likely explanation for the jump.

Clicking that link and following a few threads, I found a guy's VOA Database where he is tracking virgin oil samples. Note in my recent sample there is a drop in Calcium, Moly, and Boron with an increase of Mag. which aligns with what has been captured in Virgin samples from 2023 & '24. The Mobil 1 oil sample I recently sent would have been the oil from my 2023 service. Then if you look back to my older sample reports, the higher Calcium, Moly, and Boron with lower Mag line up with the two virgin samples from 2020. Definitely a change in the additive package around 2023.

I'm not a oil or chemistry nerd, but it's interesting being able to detect the changes in additives. This oil nerd video discusses high calcium in DFI engines being problematic. Wonder if M1 is just adjusting to the modern world of more DFIs.
