Parking brakes are self adjusting and you may have to un adjust them to fit the cable

WM468316ADJUSTINGTHEPARKING-BRAKESHOES(ALLMODELS)> ADJUSTINGTHEPARKING-BRAKESHOES

1. Remove the rear wheels.

2. Undo the parking-brake lever and push back the disc brake pads of the rear axle until the brake disc can rotate freely.

3. The adjustment fixture can be twisted through the bores in the wheel mounting.

4. Turn the brake disc in such a way that the adjustment fixture becomes visible. Using a

-screwdriver-inserted through the bore, move the adjustment device until the wheel can no longer be turned. To be specific, this means: put transmission in neutral. Further torque of the brake disc between 50 Nm and 150 Nm (37 ftlb. and 111 ftlb.) (test with torque click wrench on the drive shaft lock nut clockwise). Next, turn the adjustment fixture back again through 4 notches (release approx. 3 notches until the wheel can be turned freely, then release another 1 notch). Repeat the procedure on the other wheel. → Adjusting the parking brake

Sadly I still cannot get enough slack no matter the pulling and prodding. Currently have the rear wheels off and turned the rear drum brakes to the loosest AND the tightest settings according to the instructions hoping to get about 1 or 2 more millimeters of slack but no luck. 1 side is connected to the handbrake lever but just cant seem to figure this one out.

On reassembly it says to:Slide the protective sleeve of the parking-brake cable -2- on the underbody onto the guide

tube -1- . Ensure it is seated correctly

Check if on yours it's not seated, that might be the issue-

I pulled the sleeves off both sides and re-seated them and cables still seem too tight. I understand these cables are self-adjusting, but it just seems like there isn't enough cable, ha! With all my might I am pushing the turn buckle towards the cable and pulling the cable towards the turn buckle with vice grips locked in place and it's so close but just can't get the end of the cable just over the lip so it can seat. Wow, the axles and flange were a breeze and I'm stumped on the ebrake lol

I'd go over everything again including axles and not rush it. Torque settings etc. Sometimes a good break is needed, things can get frustrating
Hope everything else with the transaxle is good to go

I certainly appreciate your help John! I've been stepping away after every few attempts, ha! I just disconnected the side I had successfully done and connected the other side to see if I could get more slack but its seemingly the exact same. So so close but not quite. Having a Guard LSD installed in the coming weeks and this will have to be done again so perhaps I just wait and see if the shop doing the LSD can make it happen
