obviously rev match is done with double clutch. I get that modern cars dont need double clutching but the sensation of shifter just getting sucked into the gear and shifting with literally 0 jerk feels pretty amazing.
if you rev match correctly, there will not be any jerkiness. the reason you feel a jerk is because your wheel speed and engine speed are mismatched.
I love this topic... only because I learned to double-clutch rev-match on Formula Ford cars when I was young. Straight-cut gears without synchros meant the only way to get into a lower gear was to double-clutch and match revs... accomplished with the (sadly named) heel-and-toe technique. Without the double-clutch, you'd grind the gears mercilessly. While rev matching ensures the engine and driven-wheels are at the same relative speed (rpm), it does not ensure the input and output shafts of the transmission are at the same speed. The double clutch accomplishes just that, ensuring the gears on the input and output shaft are spinning at the same rpm, so you can easily downshift and without leaving metal shavings inside the gearbox. In conclusion, a synchronised gearbox, such as that in our road cars, has no real benefit from double-clutching as the synchros smoothly match rpm between input and output shafts. You can do perfect rev-matched shifts with only one press of the clutch. I suppose you could claim less syncrho wear by double-clutching, which sounds about as interesting as saving break wear by downshifting on long downhills.
With all of that said, I love the ballet of heel-toe, rev-matched, double-clutching... it is an art form. And by practicing, I'm fully prepared for that call-up from a NASCAR team when they need a middle-aged road-racing specialist with marginal racing skills.

When I was 15 my brother and I got on a city bus, late at night on a Sunday, and since we knew a lot of the drivers, this particular driver said he was tired and asked "who wants to take the wheel?" So I took over, pressed the heavy clutch, put it in 2nd gear and took off Since an early age we noticed everything and that rarely 1st gear was ever used, and when they were up a hill and had no choice it was double clutch time. These were 5 speed Mercedes city buses in Brazil, very common. We learned to drive when we were around 11, my grandmother took us to the country side on Sundays after she caught us trying to move the car at the supermarket. I didn't know what to do with the clutch but my brother kept saying "press the clutch!!!" When I dumped it the car lunged forward and when she got back she noticed it was out of place. So we got driving lessons, lol
Because my uncle was nuts driving in the streets my grandparents eventually got him into auto racing which was short lived, but he did have a Lola and when we were kids we got to sit in the driver's seat etc. We also learned from watching him drive, great memories.
