Engine Mount Opinions
Hey all, did a search on engine mounts and all the threads were at least a few years old. Currently getting the PDEM/Dynamic Engine Mount failure notice on start up. Noticing shifts are getting clunky as well so to time to change out. Question is, better so stay with OEM PDEM mounts or look at aftermarket. Main options I've come across are RSS, Rennline or WEVO. Some extra noise isn't part of consideration, car is currently running Dundon race headers. Understand aftermarket would require coding out PDEM, not that big of a deal.
Looked at replacement set of OEM PDEM at Suncoast, roughly $2,500, not a game changer but $2k difference could be put into track time. Is there $2 performance difference in PDEM?

My first GT3 was set up with Rennline solid mounts. That car had straight (no cat) headers and sharkwerks bypass so maybe similar consideration for noise. Also had stiff suspension. I like it a lot and used for street and track. Honestly did not mind or really notice excessive vibration etc but car had a "stiff/sharp" track feel and response in general that I liked. I now have 08 GT3 with DSC set-up suspension so not as harsh as prior car. I also switched to semi-solid engine mounts so a little less transmitted vibration.
I really can't see spending $2500 on OEM mounts (am I reading that correctly??)
Go with semi-solid or similar and definitely spend the difference on anything else !!! lottery tickets, travel, some other upgrade etc. - all better investments.
If you really want OEM I have at 2 sets - 1 from each GT3 - you could PM me.
I also have the rennline solid mounts listed in the classifieds - again PM me if you are interested.

Below is recommendation from a PM received from reputable source. Swap Dyanamic for one of the below, choose your flavor.
OEM 997 GT3/RS rubber mounts (same vibration frequency)
OEM 964 RS rubber mounts (a little bit more vibration)
Aftermarket polyurethane mounts (noticeably more vibration)

My understanding about the factory dynamic engine mounts was that their advantage was not in an increase in "performance", but rather a decrease in NVH without any sacrifice in performance. In other words, if performance (directness) is the only consideration, then the cheaper semi solid solutions are a great alternative. if NVH is a primary concern but you also don't want to give up anything on the performance side, then the OEM dynamic mounts would be the way to go. They let you have your cake, and eat it too.

I would say that any time there is unintended motion you loose 'performance'. The question here is the intended use of the car, which as a street car, I would agree that there is no loss of performance, as a race car, different story...

Installed RS engine mounts yesterday and went for a ride today. Little more vibration at idle than dynamic mounts. Slightly rowdier inside cabin, suits GT3 personality. Shifting is slightly smoother as well. Overall pretty happy and if needed again may try a aftermarket semisolid.
