Side muffler delete: Options to keep quiet?
#61
The yellow 997.2 GT3 in the video above is Tyler's car. He works for ATL Perimeter Porsche.
Two more videos can be found here. However, these videos are of no side or center muffler. The video above is side deletes with center muffler.

But not the same exhaust. The one I posted is only side deletes. The last two are with the SW titanium race pipes which is a straight through setup up from the cats back.

Side deletes are fine, no power loss at all when used with a factory muffler. Side Deletes should be fine on TI mufflers as well as our catted street headers are also fine on the TI mufflers.
Make sure to get valved side deletes with quality Helical valves, cheap Chinese valves are available but quality is questionable. When buying parts for $150,000 cars, you do get what you pay for....
One thing to keep in mind is sound is a pressure wave, the pressure comes from the amount of O2 and gas you can combust. So if you make more power, you make more sound. For those interested in more sound a set of our street headers gets you all of it, more power, more sound and you can use your stock muffler to get there with no drone. If you were to get our side deletes then want to upgrade to our headers, you would have to sell the side deletes as our headers are longer than factory and the factory side deletes are interchangeable with our street header side deletes.
last thing. Those looking for side deletes into a center delete, prepare for significant droning in the cabin between 2200-3200rpm (typical highway cruising speeds) and valves will make no difference as there is no muffler at that point.

I was running a center delete for a long time. Then one of my side valves failed and it sounded like a lawnmower. I had been meaning to try side deletes so I got some valved side deletes and installed the oem center muffler. It was WAY too quiet. So I removed the center and put the center delete back in. Now it sounds about right. I def have some drone now though. To me, the best sound is the center delete option. Lower resonance, but much louder and aggressive. Good luck.
At the same time, I did side deletes on my 991.2RS. I thought I liked it, but lately I'm thinking I will go with a center delete on that car too because my 991.2 GT3 was much better sounding than my RS. I guess you don't drop as much weight though and the heat buildup near the tires is prob worse.

You also may want to read through the similar thread I started a while back. Yes, my opinion on the side deletes on the RS has changed with time.

still think your answer is in the valves. Go with the solution that removes the side mufflers (valved sides), plus your existing Fabspeed with mini-max on the upper valved closed path. That should be quieter than your existing WITH the valves shut. That's your cruising config.
Hoping that when you open the valves, it would give you somewhat of a louder tone for those "fun" moments.
