Early 2010

Mine are the same

Do it ASAP whether you track or not imo. Friend bought a 15k mike 7.1 gt3. 1st track day out at Laguna coolant pipes let go. Going into turn 2 he was on my rear the next thing I see in my rear view is smoke and him spinning.

another friend bought a 20k mike example and 2nd day of ownership the pipes let go on the highway.

Update fellas - Moving forward with pinning the lines w Sharkwerks. While the engine is out I'm taking care of a 'few' more items while it sits in the hands of the experts.

- Sharkwerks Coolant pipes
- Guards LSD - Internal components quoted but I am seriously considering getting the upgraded mooty billet housing to go along with it.
- BMC Air Filters
- Oil change
- 4.0 RS Clutch kit w Flywheel
- RSS adjustable toe steer kit
- RSS adjustable rear link kit

Will ask about adding in these additional items:

Front and rear main seals
Replace Rubber hoses
Coolant expansion tank
Variocam bolts
Water pump
Replace spark plugs

Already have EVO Tune and Function first shift right solution installed. https://www.sharkwerks.com/transmiss...-987-2-FUNT476

Anything I'm missing? The next time I have the engine dropped it will be for the 4.1 surgery so want to make the most of this procedure.

As mentioned above, I'd consider the harmonic dampener as well.

This is about a $1500 cost for parts and labor - I'm hesitant moving forward with this given the cost but am curious to know your experience w this part. Did it fail on you?

I don't have personal experience with the dampener. I did almost buy a 997.2 GT3RS about 3 years ago that had the cam shaft actuator bolts let go requiring a new motor (not disclosed to me but found out through some research on this forum...but that's another story).I do, however, have 1st hand experience with a failed coolant pipe on my previous 997TT.

The bolts backing out is the one catastrophic failure that I worry about (perhaps unnecessarily) that could be averted by wiring the bolts and installing the dampener. If/when it's time to pull my motor, I'm going to do it.

I put the harmonic dampener in last year when I pulled the motor to pin it. So far so good!

Why do people opt for the harmonic dampener versus larger/tighter screws to clamp the actuators down better?

Because if the data supplied by neil harvey is correct, the damper solves the cause of the problems, rather than addressing the symptoms. I've seen cracked off alternator mounts, and it's not unreasonable to believe that engine harmonics are related to the resonance flap screws backing out. I also wonder if the engine harmonics have something to do with the way the coolant fittings come apart over time. If the engine really does have harmonic issues, its better for all to components to solve the root cause rather than bolting everything down with bigger bolts.

Thanks for the name drop. I looked up Neil Harvey and he wrote a very detailed piece on this topic here if anyone is interested in some light, engine dynamics, reading.

My question is does this happen in the 997.2 RS that has a stock SMFW?
