Default Under the knife already! (and some fun pics)

I purchased my 997.1 GT3 about 3 weeks ago knowing it immediately needed some work. The clutch was shot and the rear main seal was weeping a little bit. We also found a small crack in the coolant expansion tank. Above and beyond all of that, I also took the opportunity swap new plugs in, flush the trans and replace the drive belt.

My go to indy is always Sleepers Speed Shop in Costa Mesa. They are fantastic with air and water cooled P cars. If you are ever in the area drop in and say hello. They have great coffee and some really good eye candy!

I played with Japanese cars for 20 years and a buddy said OS Giken had a GT3 clutch. I took a quick peek at their web site and they only showed a 964/G50 listing. After a quick call with Jon it does in fact work for GT3.

This doesn't look good!

All cleaned up

While there I also picked up one of their muffler deletes. They build these in house by hand. Available in black cerakote too, which is what I got.

And some fun pics....

Didn't know OS Giken offered a multi-plate clutch. Thanks for the sharing. Are the plates 7.25" or 5.5"? Does it require a different release bearing and slave cylinder?

Hey Tom,

I can't remember if it was 7.25 or 5.5. I'd be happy to ask.

Didn't need a slave cylinder update. Just these OE parts:

Clutch Bearing Unit (964RS) 944-116-080-00
Guide Tube (964RS) 950-116-813-30
Flywheel Bolts (964RS) - 928-102-151-01
Pilot Bearing 999-052-169-00

Hey bud ,

This might sound weird, but I recognize your username from Honda-Tech and nwp4life from like, 10+ years ago! I was wayyyyy into hondas back then. I remember sifting through all the Eibach annual meet pics on NWP and drooling over them. I also just bought a 997.1 GT3 a few weeks ago! These P cars are amazing! Its quite the step up from turbo b18 civics and integra's, lol. I still love those cars.

Small world!! Congrats on the purchase. Yes, they are friggin amazing.

A bunch of the older Honda guys have moved on to 911’s. SS Mag is about to do a story about 3 of them and I made the cut. I still have my 98 ITR but it’s not driven at all. The GT3 just does everything better.

Unplug the valves via the electrical connector in the engine bay for even more aural goodness.

See post 22 in link below for exhaust valve location. Note you’ll notice a loss of low end torque if you run with valves open all the time. At least I did. But not an issue if you keep the revs above 5k all the time

I’d also consider buying the Carnewal exhaust valve controller. Allows you to switch between keeping the valves open all the time or stock operation using a remote control switch.
