Is the 997.2 GT3 RS that much better than a 997.2 GT3?

Yes - and my plot thickens as picking up an RS would force my hand to sell my Spyder and 993 C2S. I cannot justify the expense of all three. And some part of me, believe it or not, longs for the simplicity of owning one Porsche. Less insurance, less maintenance, washing etc... I'd keep the Golf as the DD and RS for the weeknights and ends. Simple.

If people spent less time chasing cars they can't get or are a stretch and enjoyed the cars that they have or get more more easily they would probably be a lot happier imo. Again, on this topic I'd be perfectly happy as I said to get the gt3 without wondering about the rs as you can with a bit of effort and expense tweak the car to be at least as good. And per post above it'd allow me to keep the 993 too!

I'm not sure I entirely agree your 100% logic here! I for one LOVE the chase, the events and all the details that go into the experience of buying cars. I think this may be part of my DNA - I love action and change. Granted some don't - my wife for example. She would never in a million years think of changing cars. She is very happy with what she drives but she loves changing out her garden. Happiness thus in fact is not, for me, a static state but one of action and change. Is it financially the best approach? Probably not in any way shape or form but it's way more fun! And all this being said, there is a very nice GT3 non-RS I am considering as well. Might be the perfect garage mate for the 993.

Now I have two great cars to experience. I still do lust after a RS, but can't justify the money. Once I decided on the two car strategy it was either a 964/993 or a 997 turbo. That decision was very tough. I figured why not experience an air cooled vs a rocket ship. Love the vintage 911 smells and experience, but I do lust having the power of the turbo. Turbo air cooled are insanely expensive. If only I bought one 10yrs ago.
Makes total sense to me

Never once felt short changed in my GT3 nor do I hanker for an RS. Don’t get me wrong the RS’s are simply amazing. Thankfully I’m wholly content with what I’ve got.

Love the 997 for it’s mix of performance, interior, looks and all round usability. Enjoy!!!
I'm very much of this mindset.
When I purchased mine [8 years ago] the delta between the two was very small. But I've always preferred the narrow body look. And since I was driving it regularly, the large wing was a little OTT for me. Looking at it from a financial point of view I made a mistake. But I still prefer the narrow body, even though I take it to the track 10+ times a year.

x2 but mooty has a point.

if i can go back in time i would go for .1rs (apart from obvious 4.0 and 2rs)

Sort of in the same boat - thought few times of selling my GT4 and 7.2 GT3 and getting a 7.2 RS. But... I think the 2 cars together give me more varied experience and happiness than one car - even an RS alone could.

GT3+GT4 > GT3RS
GT3+GT4 < GT3RS + GT4

comparing two car vs one is not real comparison

lucky enough to have both...if you plan on driving it, get the GT3 and do some tweaks and you can get close to the driving experience of the RS. If you want a more rare and potentially collectable car that you drive mostly to C&C, then RS. I also had 991 GT3 and then went backwards

I never hesitated in going to the RS when I wanted to step to a 7.2GT3. I absolutely LOVE my car. I’ve driven a number of the 996 / 997 GT3s, and I always wonder where the rest of the performance is relative to my car (track driving even though I also street my car).

Oh - and Mooty helped me enormously and as always, was completely spot on. Get the GT3 and will always wonder what an RS is like. Get an RS and the GT3 will always feel like a step down. Yeah, its more money... but worth every penny IMHO if you can swing, and you will never regret.

I do agree to find the car that is right for you - BUT if you are asking the question, thats the RS.

Good luck with whatever you decide. They all are amazing cars.

different gen 911's have different real performance deltas and features between plain jane gt3 and same gen rs

for many the two letters are all that matters

for others the two letters mean less and more variety is better spice of life

for yet others all is enjoyed more when you know you have made smart choices with your money, where for some money hardly matters at all

so many ways to enjoy porsches and other performance cars... but don't wait too long... this era is coming to a close with e-cars, hybrids, robot cars on the horizon

If I couldn't afford the RS, then the GT3 would be my next pick.

Same can be said about the 4.0 vs 3.8 in my opinion.

Get a GT3 then decide if you want to stay there. If you just plan on having a weekend special car, its more than enough. The RS is so much car for most people that its really difficult to justify its purchase.

Its just a badge worth an extra $60-80 over a GT3. But I love that badge and everytime I look at it and drive it after 2 years of ownership,

I still cannot express how glad I am having an RS in my garage. I was from a 991 GT3 to my .2 RS and couldnt be happier.

Quick Reply: Is the 997.2 GT3 RS that much better than a 997.2 GT3?
