Default Need Advice: Buying Jitters 2011 C2

Greetings everyone,

After staring at posts for three hours I finally decided to post because I feel like a groom on the night before his wedding sitting in a bar with cold feet!...

I've found a very nice 2011 997.2 C2 with proper PDK (paddles) for a price that's within my budget. The car is far from me so I can't get my hands on it, I've done the PPI, I've asked a million questions to the guys who did my PPI and I am a hair away from buying but here is where I am getting cold feet - I've driven 991.1 GTS PDK, GT3 PDK even 981 PDK and I"m not expecting this non S to feel the same, I'm just worried that driving in manual mode with no SC or PSE option will feel "bland". That this PDK is not engaging. (all previous cars were non P but German and MT) I was 50/50 on getting a MT or PDK but this one was the best compromise as far as age of car, milage, spec. I didn't think my first P car would be PDK and not MT but the other PDKs I've driven have opened me up to the possibility of owning a PDK car.

I've looked for any 2010-2012 997.2 C2 with paddle PDK close to me to test, so I can put my jitters to rest but the nearest one is over 300 miles away....so to all you virtual bartenders.......

Thanks.

I owned 997.2 3.6 DFI manual shift before and I drive a 997.2 3.6 DFI PDK now.

My PDK car was missing SportChrono when I first bought it. Indeed without SportChrono the car feels a bit sedated. Fortunately, for a mere 1000 $ you can have SportChrono refitted and then all is good. Sport mode perfect for everyday driving and SportPlus perfect when you feel a little bit aggressive .

I say go for your 2011 car!

Regards,

CF

First of all I'd never have a PDK...but that's just my personal preference.

I've never had second thoughts about something and after I went ahead been happy....it always works the other way for me. Why not just wait to find a manual?

Good Luck.

Tom

I have always been a manual guy, but I had to get a PDK as part of the collective bargaining agreement with my wife. I also got the sport SW upgrade. I think it's a must. I love the PDK. It's by far the most engaging auto trans I have ever driven. And in traffic, it's nice not to have to shift. If you're even considering it, I think you'll be fine with it.

I only wanted to get PDK. I have another, faster car with a manual. PDK is great. You can add the sport chrono functions at the dealer for 1k USD. PDK isn't as much fun without it. No regrets here, and would purchase PDK again, will have it also on additional 911s I buy.

I couldn't say it any better. You will know when you find the right car. You won't be indecisive about it. Wait for the manual.I hadn't owned a manual for 20 years and was ready to buy a new automatic Corvette when I saw the car in my avatar 2 years ago. I wanted THAT car and now I am loving driving a stick again.

Collective bargaining agreement...love it. After 25 years of marriage, mine goes something like this:

Wife: Is that a new bike part?
Me: Are those new boots?

Back to the OP...get what you really want in your first P-car.

Hey guys,

Thank you all so much for all the advice. I am currently in the collective bargaining agreement phase also especially since a lot of money dropped on previous trackday car that met untimely death on NBR right before selling.

Is the SC really "just" $1000 from a Porsche Service shop?

And what I really want *GT3/GT3RS* I can't get. But I would also love a .2 C2S in Guards Red with Black Rims and SC - unfortunately right out of budget too and haven't seen one on the market anywhere.

I paid 1000 for the software for the sport chrono functions and it's about 1 hour shop time at the dealership.

For the fun added it's a no brainer. The car is in and out at the dealer.

Interesting. I would have guessed ~2 hrs given they also have to install and wire up the button, and program the computer.

1 hr is very reasonable.

And for reference, dealers around here (SF Bay Area) charge $200-$250/hr for labor.

Karl.
