Actually the new car warranty doesn't cover a clutch either. And the point was not what I spent on the car (which was close enough to $100K anayway), it was that high end cars should have a reputation for also being high quality cars.

That sounds like you did a good job working out a pretty good solution. I'd pay the extra few bucks to have them replace the RMS when the clutch has been removed. It should be zero additional labor and like $50 bucks for the seal.

I believe that's in there but I will make sure and thanks for the suggestion.

Call Porsche and complain loudly. They will probably help you with the cost or pay for the whole thing. Don't pay for anything until you talk to Porsche.

You are correct when you say that CPO counts for a lot. But at the same time there is no way to inspect a clutch without tearing it apart. I think it's great that they're covering parts cost.

I think these situations are really in the hands of the dealer. I had a very similar experience with a CPO GTS a few years ago. The dealer covered the full cost of the replacement... parts & labor. Although the warranty technically did not cover this repair, they wanted to maintain the goodwill. I noticed the issue within weeks of taking delivery... so that may have helped my case too.

Hope everything is sorted now for you AutobahIstLieb... on the bright side... it will be years before you need to worry about the clutch.

I was in my non-P car today behind my neighbor in his Boxster. We had stopped at a traffic light and I had my windows down. As the light turned green, I was in disbelief as he seemed to rev it up to about 3000 RPM and slipped the clutch for the first 25-50 feet as he slowly pulled out from the light. I am afraid there is more of this than we realize.

I just got a call from the dealer. They pulled the tranny, photographed everything and sent it to PNA. Porsche will supply the parts, I'm on the hook for the labor. The reason they are doing this is because there are no hotspots on the clutch or flywheel which would indicate recent abuse. So, IOW, they are acknowledging that I did not do this... yet they are still happy to let me pay up to $1700 in labor. I guess I should be happy that they are meeting me more than half way as the parts alone are just over $3K - that's clutch, flywheel, seals, throwout bearing, etc..

Bah.

Have a great weekend, I'll be back in my baby on Monday
Rusnak in TO? If so Im probably having BBQ with the lead mechanic tonight.
