Car up and running: update and apology
Hello all. Suffered cylinder failure back end of Dec or so. Actual cylinders affected were 4/5 it turns out. Went with long block from RND for reasons I won't go into here.
During the decision making and rebuild process I was assisted by input from
Petza, Ahsai and BenZ among others. Last month I took a break from the Boards and some PM's went unanswered by me. All please accept my thanks and my apologies.
The core charges to RND were refunded with the exception of $1200. They reportedly found damage to the pistons and they were not rebuildable.
The crew at TKX Performance in Huntington Station (LI) reassembled all the pieces with loving care and got me back on the road. Profs folks.
With 600+ miles on the motor I can report that it is an excellent running piece of hardware. During the extended break in process I have no concerns
other than an ongoing monitoring of oil consumption. RND makes clear that "engine will consume oil during break in" I assume this has to do with specialized oil, nickies and manufacturing technique.
At any rate my nightmares are slowly subsiding and I look forward to the motor settling in and providing me with the stability the OEM motor did not.
Cheers to all. Good to be back

Burning Brakes
I didn't participate in your original posting; but, thought that I might emphasize with you over breaking in a new engine. All new engines will burn some oil until the rings break in and provide a good seal. You should see the consumption end after about 500 miles. And, its ok to be a little bit paranoid while you are putting miles on the new motor. Your confidence will build as your oil consumption drops.
