Thinking about installing a DashCam
Lots to chose from on amazon. I'm so comfused
wants:
1. dual channel
2. 1080P or better
3. loop function
4. parking mode
5. small
6. between 100 -200 bucks
Are you running one of these? Can you make a recommendation?
Seems like a good insurance policy, people don't want to take responsibility for mistakes.

Yes, it is an excellent insurance policy and a way to force Cops to be honest in certain cases. My son was hit by a driver who ran through a red light, in Charlotte. Thanks to the camera and multiple visits to the local police department, he managed to get his car re-reimbursed by the insurance company (the car was totaled in the crash). The other driver had no driving license, the car he was driving was not his, the car was not insured....but he happened to be of the same color as the officer......
Lesson learned: always drive with a camera. In other countries (Russia for instance), it is absolutely mandatory to have a camera to protect yourself and claim your rights on the roads. It si slowly beginning to be the same in the USA, unfortunately.

-GPS module preferred. some lawyers will argue video evidence.
-Always loop function.
-parking mode, motion, sound, these are all optional IMO.
-They are all small. dont worry about size.
I run two of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/282015294735
and two Mobius actioncam's. Heatsinks and Capacitor upgrades.
Have this one,,,,,, very simple,,, Black Box B40-C ,,,,,,

Could you post photos of your install, please?
Finally -- still happy with your setup? We run dashcams in all our vehicles, but we've had 2 out of 3 Mini 0806's fail just out of warranty so I'm looking for something more reliable (the Mini's were fantastic when they worked, and we do have one that is still working but for how long...).
I bought a VanTrue X2 about a year ago and like it enough I bought another one last December for my truck. It meets everything on your list plus it has 2560x1440 resolution and performs well in low light.
If you want automated time-setting and GPS location recording you just add another $22 for the GPS-enabling mount. If you want to hardwire it for parking mode there is a special power adapter made to turn it off if your battery starts running low for another $10. The parking mode supports either 1 frame per second (lower power consumption) or motion-based recording.
In my truck I leave it on for parking mode to record the comings and goings around my house and notice the battery drain after 2-3 days. n the Porsche I have the power-drain preventer, but I tried it in the Porsche and the battery got lower than I wanted after a couple of days of running before it intervened so it is now on switched power. So I guess it may not safely meet your parking mode request unless you are willing to manage the power yourself when you do or don't want parking mode. I assume you'll have this problem with all cameras though.

I've gone through several "cheap" and "budget" eBay dashcams, and I've learned my lesson the hard way. While a "real" dashcam seems overpriced, at least they are supported and reliable. I run a BlackVue in both of my cars (1 channel in the Jetta, and 2 channel in the 911).
This is their latest model; they have older models available for less:
I wouldn't bother with anything sub-$150 - it's not that you can't have quality at that price, but chances are you're going to get ripped off.

Been running one for 3 years now, did catch an accident where person stopped at a stop sign and accelerated into a car crossing. Was used with no argument from the victim's insurance to pay right away and no dealing with the aggressor.
Depends how paranoid you are but there are dual camera, front and rear, which can tell a story better. Some newer ones with side cameras as well. Go on youtube and search for russian dash cam for a good idea of what you will catch.
You want something that has good night recording. Almost nothing I have seen is good at catching a license plate, unless you are super close.
This is video from greater than 1080p,
Also be aware of recording audio, some states that is illegal.
Don't waste your money, but don't be cheap either. Saving a few hundred by buying a 100 dollar cam will bite you when the thing has been running for a year plus, you have an accident and then find out it was defective and never writing the files...
$400 is pricy, but again, think of this as insurance.
I recommend spending a few hours on this site: https://dashboardcamerareviews.com/

What are the benefits of the GPS feature? Seems to me that if it tracks and shows speed, that could be a negative when you show your video that the other driver was at fault if it shows you were exceeding the speed limit at all. Thoughts?
