Default Wrist Pin Intall Tools

After taking the case and pistons to the machine shop and chatting with a few local Porsche engine shops, we are pretty comfortable in a stuck ring diagnosis. There was some sludgy build up in the grooves of several pistons, and no other issues were found. We are going for a full rebuild with Nickies. The case is at the machine shop now, and we will be doing the reassembly once it comes back. I'm hoping to find a reasonably priced wrist pin and clip installation tool, but have not had any luck as of yet.

The heads have been checked and cleaned by the machine shop, and have passed muster with no issues.

Oh, and we are going 4.0 on the rebuild.
Suggest that you contact Stomski Racing. They have come up with a wide array of custom tools for 911 engines. Not sure what the configuration or diameter is for your wrist pin retainer rings, but Stomski has at least (2) sizes of tool that allow for easy installation of the retaining rings. Would have been a PITA to install the wrist pin snap rings on my 993 engine if I had not had the Stomski tool which was about $75. Call and talk to Steve Stomski. Nice guy.

I would imagine he wants everything new as possible in there. I built my motor in my garage though and went with the recommendations made by LNE and my budget.

you can find the wrist Clip insertion tool on ebay for under $250, that's what I used.

I really admire that because I've done enough work on my p-cars to know how complex that project is. Considered doing it myself but only briefly. Well done!

I checked virtually every extra box and had to draw the line somewhere. 🤑

On the m96/96 3.6 from my understanding its same stroke so to go to 4.0 you just switch to bigger piston bores!
Also why go nikies vs iron sleeves? Bisimoto is running them on his 1000hp porsche with an m96..
Ive been looking into this for the future in case my 3.6 ever takes a dump!!

Thanks for the tips on the tools. I may have a source to borrow them, but obviously the wrist pin install is the biggest challenge.

If you take your time and do your measurements right (and use good tools), you can do it with a lot of confidence. I forgot important dowels in the block, so i had to do it twice.

Check into the line of "Faultless" tools developed by Jake and Charles. Also, snip the little pigtail off of the wrist pin clip so you don't have to try and get it into the hole - this is how Jake taught us to do it at his M96/M97 102 engine class.

those tools are $1500+. The $200 ebay ones did the trick for me and I'm not remotely close to being a pro at this.

He has a torque specs book that you can buy from his Knowledge Gruppe site and he has his engine e building course attendees buy the class book, but I don't think he sells that separately and it's copyrighted.
