As I'm installing new Techart springs on front looks like the calipers can use a clean....what's the best product/way to clean off all the dust and grime?

I use brake dawn dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush. Wheel cleaner works well also. Just be sure to rinse off the wheel cleaner after a few minutes. Brake cleaner would make sense but it evaporates too quickly before you get a chance to scrub the nooks and crannies.

 

Soap & water. A good brush. When clean, coat with RejeX Wax or a more longer lasting product like Optimum Gloss Coat. Then the next time you want to clean them, it will be super easy.

They are painted so you'll want to protect the paint. That said they are also a painted surface that is the most exposed to dirt and debris so they'll need a good scrubbing.
I use simple green and a soft brush to clean mine. Then I use a wheel wax to coat them. Wheel wax is a bit thicker than body wax. Calipers aren't on display as much as your body paint is and can use the protection.

working on mine right now. i do this every couple of weeks. For first timers, youll have to use more agressive soap, strong simple green, maybe use some wax and grease remover to get off tar and stains. etc. They are just paint so dont scrape or use any abrasive you wouldnt use on body. Next time you will work less to clean them up
wash out everything and wipe and blow all water out and they wont rust up

 

For the big cleaning, ya gotta pull the wheels off. Just to be clear.

The Armor All Outlast is also a great topper and future dirt/dust repellent.

 

I wipe them with brake cleaner when the wheels are off, or spray them with an all surface safe wheel cleaner and use a thin wheel brush during the regular wash. With the brake cleaner, I wear nitrile gloves as that stuff will suck the oils out of your skin faster than you can believe.

 

brake clean or carb cleaner or mag wheel cleaner (which is meant for old type bare metal wheels) or chemicals is way to harsh for paint , you will bleach the paint out or stain it fast.
soap or detergent is just fine

 

I don't use Mag wheel cleaner - it's an all surface wheel cleaner that's even safe for the cadmium plating that's done on rotors to prevent them from rusting in the vanes.



OEM Porsche calipers seem like they're pretty well coated. I wonder if they're powder coated and not just painted as I've been doing the occasional cleaning with brake cleaner during brake jobs for 30 years and never had a problem with the finish on my calipers, even the ones I've painted myself with the 2-part epoxy type caliper paint kits.

 

Thanks guys...I did it the old fashioned way with just soap and water and a toothbrush.....worked fine. First time they had been done in 6 years but dust came off pretty easy

 

Buy yourself the 1 gallon Meguiars Super Degreaser, dilute 1:4 if very dirty and use a brush. Rinse with water and you are done. I use this super degreaser for every cleaning job, works fantastic and is extremely cheap to use.

Sonax Wheel Cleaner. There is no better IMO and I have tried at least 15 different kinds of cleaners. I use a round soft brush and just dub. The wheel cleaner is so good that rubbing is never needed.

Also - it's not damaging the paint or make it matte. My calipers are shiny and look like new despite I use Sonax at least once per week.
