Default LTT-Which to get?

Can anyone point me in the right direction on what is the best Low Temp Thermostat to get? I see them all over on ebay, but don't know one from the next. Thanks!

Probably LN Engineering? I had one of theirs in my 996.

^^^ What he said ^^^
I installed mine +/- 6 years ago with no problems and lower running temps on the temp gauge.

Got 2 from LN - one in each car. I wouldn't trust the eBay ones to actually open consistently at the right temp and who wants to do that job, or any job, more than necessary when you find out the new one you just installed isn't any good?

What does the LTT do to oil temp warm up speed? For those that drive in winter, slower oil warmup slows getting going.

What about summer oil temp spikes? Any effect?

Peace

Don't cheap out on a thermostat. Go with a proven brand like LN.

I've used a Wahler (with housing; from Pelican) for about a 9 months now - no issues.

No difference is warm-up rate for me; of course, the end point is lower (especially noticeable in the winter).
Based of the two winters I've owned the car (two different tstats), the rate of warm-up has not changed.
Summer oil temp spiking still occurs but the spike isn't generally as high and the return-to-normal-temp time is a little quicker.
I do not have a third radiator. [I cleaned my radiator/condensors last August.] I think adding a third radiator would speed-up the spike recovery rate (and probably the spike end point) and not affect the warm-up time (if the tstat is working properly).

Personally I don't think your getting a big quality swing with LN vs Wahler vs Motorad vs OE. I went with the Motorad of Ebay and tested it 5-6 times in water before installing it. I also tested it against the OE unit that It replaced which performed poorly and was presumably the original Porsche installed unit.

OE unit failed to open until well above 180F which was the stamped rating temp. Also failed to open more than 1/2 regardless of temp. Motorad was dead nuts accurate and began to open at exactly 158-160 every time. Consistently fully open by 175-180...

We offer the Wahler unit, the nice thing is you do not have to purchase the tool to change the thermostat out.

It's true that purchasing the whole assembly makes the job easier but it is also pretty easy to build a tstat removal tool out of scrap PVC pipe.

Looks nice. Getting the thermostat out of the housing without the special tool is not to difficult however...
